Hello,
I received an email a weeks ago that my listing made the top 1%.
When I look at the listing it still says top 5%.
Everytime I reach out to support, they say wait another 72 hours. Does anyone know typically how long this takes to update?
I also had an issue with my Superhost status updating this quarter, so I have this small doubt my listing status will update.
Does it normally take over a week to update?
Thanks!
Guest favourite is the listing badge, and it works very differently from Superhost, the host badge.
Guest favourite is not "awarded".
Listings are simply ranked per area, and the list updates every 24 hours.
What probably happened is that you reached the top 1% one day and have since dropped to top 5%. But you're probably at the upper end of top 5%, so you could easily have a top 1% day again soon.
Remember it doesn't only depend on your own listing's performance, but also that of others, because it's a relative position.
Hello, thank you for your reply.
We are top 5%, and have been for a while. A week ago we received an email we are now currently at top 1%.
AirBNB support has also confirmed they see this as well.
The issue is it has been over a week, and our listing has not updated to reflect the new, and current top 1% status.
So my question is how long does this typically take to update?
Support keeps asking me to wait another 72 hours, and I cannot tell how many times we should follow this advice before we press, thinking there is an issue.
Hopefully that clarifies my question.
As you'll see in the link, it updates daily. You can potentially be in a different category once every 24 hours @Jennifer-and-Don1. Some days a listing remains in the same category, and some days a listing changes to another category, depending on the 24-hour rank.
Hello,
Your link discusses The Guest Favorite, and Superhost designations. That is not my question, but thank you for trying to assist.
Hello @Jennifer-and-Don1
Being in the Top 1%, 5% etc is only applied to the Guest Favourite Badge but maybe you could download the email you received so that we can better understand your question as the answers given by @Shelley159 regarding how the Guest Favourite works seems to be spot on.
I've been onto your listing just now and it is still showing a Top 5% GF badge. It may be a case that other listings performed very well at the same time as you and this affected your 1% rating statistics as we are compared to other listings performances too.
@Jennifer-and-Don1 the Guest Favourite measure ranks listing status and has 6 different layers:
1) Top 1%
2) Top 5%
3) Top 10%
4) Guest favourite (this is the top 20%)
5) No label (this is the majority of listings)
6) Bottom 10%
When your listing is in a large category with many other listings, it tends to stay within that large band for longer. Unfortunately the top 1% is a very small group, so listings move in and out of it more quickly (there isn't room for many).
The top 1% is also dominated by new listings, because a listing qualifies after only 5 reviews. If those reviews are perfect, the listing is temporarily in the top 1% (and it kicks out another listing). So what you're seeing is totally normal, and it updates daily.
HI @Jennifer-and-Don1 - I got a similar email from AIRBNB and my guest favorite did not/has not changed. I have been checking/had others check and so on.
I generally agree with what has been said here about guest favorite but something has changed in the underlying feature to now have it come up in a direct marketing email that summarizes a listing.
I don't think that guest favorite is cycling thru to update, as it used to, as mentioned in this discussion but I have no proof other than observations in my own market that I know really well. It is doing something different.
Thanks for bringing this up and let's keep snooping around to understand what has happened here.

I wanted to ask if you could take a look at this discssion thread please and provide any feedback from the technical side? And thank you in advance!!
I have attached a copy of my email message I received from AIRBNB for reference. I received this email on July 14 and it is titled "see your hosting insights".
For context:
- I have been top 10% guest favorite for awhile (like a year?).
- in theory, this should have gone up and down over that time. In other words, I should have 'lost it' and and then also, in theory, should have received 5% and so on.
- in practice it hasn't changed nor has it changed for peer listings that I follow closely. If this is updated every day then in theory I should see at least some movement. ?
- when I received the email I never noticed that the "1%" appeared for my listing. I guess I could have missed it but then why even mention it if it is only showing for 6 hours? who cares?
- and as you can see @Jennifer-and-Don1 have a similar question.
Yes, thank you. I have checked daily for the update, and although I received the email, my listing has not had a minimum 24 hour period at 1%, or any time at all that I can see. Support tells me there is an issue, and to check back with them in 72 hours. I keep doing this, but I feel there is an issue, and checking back every 3 days is not solving it. Thank you for your help!
@Greystone0 I think the wording of the email is just a bit confusing. It says "your rating is in the top 1% in your area", which is an exceptionally high overall rating.
But that won't necessarily translate to a Top 1% guest favourite badge. Overall rating is just one of the things taken into account.
Here are the guidelines, although they leave room for interpretation, and as usual we don't know the weightings and details of the algorithm:
Hmmmm, confusing indeed!
good catch!
seems like you are probably correct @Shelley169.
I guess it doesn't address why my "10%" never changes - in theory it should come and go and also potentially drop to top '5%' or why peer listings don't change either. It's odd.
Hello - I have confirmed this email, which I also received, does translate to a top 1% Guest Favorite Badge according to AirBnB support.
I should add my email is slightly different, as on my email I see a second line which says "Your listing has achieved Top 1% status" under the line "Your rating is in the top 1% of listings in your area"
They are looking into it again this morning.
