No it's not you are allowed to have camera's in inside in communal areas - normally this is in shared homes @Loren3156

I didn’t know that but it seems like a massive violation of privacy

Interior cameras may be regulated at the state level.  Where I am they are absolutely not allowed.

@Anthony2148 Make them inaccessible! Wifi could go in a locked owners closet.  There shouldn’t be security cameras in your space but if they are outside can they be mounted in a conspicuous or high up place?

@Anthony2148 I would ask them if they disconnected the WiFi by mistake, which is possible, and reiterate with them the purpose of the cameras for their safety and comfort. If they do not reply or state they do not want them on, I would advise customer service so it’s documented in case something occurs either damage or any other type of issues.

@Anthony2148 We don't have security camera's on our Airbnb house as we live right next door and can keep a pretty close eye on things.  We do have WiFi for guests use and to power the Roku device.  I think many good suggestions have been made that won't require you to take extreme measures yet.

@Anthony2148 I haven’t had any such issues. But, I’m also pretty new to this.

I have a ring doorbell and ring floodlight camera on the side of the house facing the parking area and gate to the back yard. These cameras stay on all the time for security (the guests and mine)  purposes.

@Anthony2148 Contact the guest and tell him that for some reason the security camera is not working and ask him if he knows anything about it. Tell him that for security reasons it must always be on, both for his safety and the safety of the facilities

@Anthony2148 We had this happen two weeks ago! They disconnected it from 12am-8am and I didn’t realize until the morning. I would message your guests and ask them if everything is ok! Ours was intentional to make sure that we did not see they were bringing over extra guests and smoking (which we don’t allow) people can be so disrespectful

@Anthony2148 Seems like everyone has already answered but just to clarify, they turned off the WiFi which means the security camera doesn't work (as it the security being down is a function of the WiFi being on)?  People these days who are worried about EMF will turn off WiFi, especially over night.  I would just reach out saying you have alert that the security camera isn't on and that WiFi is off and you wanted to make sure all was well.  If the security camera functions separately from your wifi and it has been disconnected then I would first contact Airbnb just to document when it was first noticed, then I would follow up as above and go from there with what other have said ie security camera has to be on etc.

in the future if you ever think of replacing your camera, I got a Reolink it operates on cellular data and a solar panel. It’s made for outdoor use too easy for Gas to turn off the Wi-Fi. That’s why I opted for cellular in additional $50 a month for T-Mobile

Make sure you state in your listing that there is a security camera onsite and location, outdoor only, ringdoor bell ect.

Hello there

A large number of wonderful suggestions and advice have already been offered by other hosts and members. One of the things I have read somewhere and think is worth considering is having two internet accounts. One internet account will then be private to the host, and the router for that can be kept locked or kept at a place that is not accessible to the guest(s). Hence, guests cannot switch it off, and any cameras within the ABB policy will not be affected.

The other internet account is for guest use. Even if the guests switch off that router or do anything to the wifi connectivity, the camera systems won't be affected.

Also, sometimes guests need to connect their Ethernet wire to the router, so with this arrangement, even if something happens to the router that is accessible to guests, the camera system won't be affected.

Just an idea that could be considered a way forward. Certainly, you cannot undo what happened, but you can prepare better if that is something that needs to be addressed.

Cheers

Nothing to do. No wifi, no security... or you can have 2 router 1 for guests 1 for the structure, and camera with memory and battery. You can controll if the guest are not easy to use it, they can damage or broke something... or you can decide to use OTG to set temperature or set on chilling, or control water for garden . The house have a own life and the guest has the own live it's a case they are together.
