So any of you who believe for one second that Airbnb is "doing the right thing" and "fully refunding" guests the 100% of the booking amounts they've taken from you, might want to take a little look at the video below.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg, by the way. I've been sent hundreds of reports, emails and screenshots this week alone, relating to major discrepancies and irregularities between what Airbnb claims to be doing, and what Airbnb is actually doing, re the EC policy and "EC refunds"

Unfortunately, the function to post screenshots on the CC at the moment appears to have been conveniently disbanded, so I'm unable to post them here just now (many of them have been shared in private communication with other members of the CC though), but rest assured, the truth about this whole duplicitous, exploitative sh*t-show will all come out in the very near future.

To be fair, it wasn't in every case, and I believe they have now started to refund all guests in full (incl service fees) after the uproar from furious guests in the latter part of the week, who were being offered their service fees back in travel coupons, but the damage has already been done. Public pressure can be a powerful motivator in persuading a company to do the right thing, though. :))

Funny that guests  get furious and in uproar and they change things.  Shame they didn't and still don't show hosts the same consideration and respect.

Unbelievable! But no, not really. Those of us who have been through the wildfires in Northern California in 2017 and 2019 had the same experience with Airbnb throwing us under the bus. 
but now that it is worldwide, effecting millions of hosts, things may change. Let’s hope so!

The video isn't the meat of the issue. It's this posted comment and subsequent comments. SMH  How is it possible that airbnb would risk openly and publicly tax fraud?

Airbnb has leveraged a global panic to pull off the biggest financial scam one could imagine from a $30 billion dollar Tech Startup. This is unethical and it hurts everybody. Airbnb is NOT actually giving guests 100% refunds due to extenuating circumstances. They are only refunding 100% of what a host would collect. They are otherwise keeping 100% of their fee PLUS hotel and occupancy taxes that no longer need to be collected and are holding all of that money from the travel as a "travel coupon" for a future stay. They are keeping tax dollars that they should be paying to the cities/states/countries of the reservation.

I'm replying to my own post. Seems that airbnb admin has stated they're not giving guests vouchers. If they were they've likely corrected themselves. That still doesn't help out hosts but honestly would you want to host a guest with Covid19? I don't. Should airbnb compensate hosts with cancelled reservations? Probably to some extent. However the creator of the you-tube video Sean Rakidzich sells a get rich scheme involving coaching aspiring entrepreneurs to  acquire rentals and then after paying the landlord rent make a profit by turning the rental into an airbnb. As a real estate agent in San Diego, I would say you'd have to look high and low to find any property owner willing to allow you to sublet their property and airbnb it. It is virtually impossible. He's so outraged in his video towards Brian Chesky but when he's making  Un-Godly profits from selling suckers his arbitrage scheme I bet he sings a different tune. Is there anyone out there who is profitably running an airbnb with a rental property? Anyone following his methods or getting his coaching?   If so I'd love to hear from you.

This has nothing to do with who made the video - but rather the content. It's well known by regular posters in the CC that I'm certainly no fan of serial arbitragers or the arbitrage model, and without a doubt, they're the ones who'll come crashing down first and fastest, as a result of the coronavirus effect. 

However, Sean does have a handler at Airbnb, and his intel is usually reasonably solid. His information in this video is correct.
