Why is the host expected to bear the brunt of this global covid 19 disaster?

I am probably going to lose my house. I anticipate that this year is a complete write off. For the guest it would be the loss of a small sum  if my cancellation policy were implemented, whereas for me it is the loss of my sole source of income.  Other sites are allowing the host to implement their cancellation policy.

Things are slow for everyone, but people still need to live somewhere.
