If a guest shows up without the person who booked the reservation or shows up with more people than quantity allowed, do they get a refund if they are refused entry due to their obvious disregard for the policies they agreed to?
@Kathy842 You have every right to refuse entry to guests who disregard the rules and policies, and it is always the best course of action to do so - even if it means that you forfeit the payout.
You should immediately contact Airbnb to get it on the record that you had to terminate the booking because the guests violated the terms. At the very least, they should open your calendar for re-booking and waive cancellation penalties. But in this situation the guest usually gets a refund.
@Kathy842 I would make it very clear to guests when they book that no one who is not accounted for on the reservation will be admitted to the property, and that the booking party has to be among the guests. That showing up with more people will mean their reservation will be cancelled on arrival. You may have this stated on your listing, but it's a good idea to also send the guest that message when they book, so that they can cancel it right away if they have nefarious intentions.
I wouldn't send it on its own, as that might seem somewhat aggressive, but in a message where you give them other info.
@Kathy842 Yes, in virtually all situations I’ve seen discussed (here & with CS) abb does not believe in “fines” for bad behavior
so if the guest doesn’t stay, they don’t pay.
it’s an unfortunate & underhanded way around any cancellation policy. But don’t worry, you’ll get to review that guest that you turned away at the door (& they may review you as well!)
