Yeah, you can't get the best out of hosting if you don't have that personal contact Lisa. I understand you love the phone calls and the nice neighbourly comments Lisa, but there is something special when guests walk around the corner and are confronted with this outside their listing cottage door......
All they want to do is open a bottle of wine and sit out in it, their preconceived plans for their stay go out the window and they just want to soak up the environment.
I had guests once from Shanghai! One morning after answering my emails I saw him sitting in the garden so I went over and joined him. He said to me...."I wish I could grow something"!! He lived on the 18th floor of an apartment building in Shanghai and had no access to a garden! I took him into the potting shed and for the next hour he was in 7th heaven potting cuttings for the next summer season.
We went back to that particular seating area.....
I know, crazy to have indoor lounge chairs in the outdoors.....but, they get covered each night and, it works! There is something about sitting in a lovely comfy commodious lounge chair in the middle of a garden.
His partner came up the path and joined us and said to me...."While we are here we want to see, Koala"!
I said to her they are in the area but, you won't see one walk up the path. I had no sooner said it and this guttural sound came out of the gum tree behind us and.....there was a Koala! I am sure she thought it was a plastic one and I was 'Bluetoothing' it on my phone. But it suddenly jumped from one branch to another and she squealed with delight.
Both of them got their wish Lisa! He got to grow something and she got to see a Koala!
2 years later they came back here after Covid and, with some of their relations and the aide of a celebrant.........they were married in our garden!
Lisa, this is the heart and soul of Airbnb! Try and experience that in a hotel!
Cheers.......Rob
