I have to say I'm a bit more than frustrated with Airbnb in the way they do not handle their Facebook administrators and/or groups. I know they have sent youtube influencers who have used their services and then expanded, cease and desist order if Airbnb is part of their website. But they certainly aren't doing anything like that on Facebook.
And having researched youtube and facebook prior to deciding to go STR vs LTR, I must admit I'm still trying to fathom the cease and desist from a positive blogger to a lack thereof from FB forums that only hate on ABB while using their name and being public or private, but anyone can join. Is there some profit for investors in undermining everything ABB?
I don't get it.
Can someone explain this to me please?
are you referring to Sean? he's actually not taking "airbnb" out of his name just yet. Apparently he has received legal advice that they can't stop him.
@Gillian166 Yes actually. That's interesting. Doesn't help all the bad press on FB though.
@Tamara682 you seem to be brand new, wait until you hit a snafu and then you find yourself understanding 'all the hate'. I find all the horror stories to be very helpful, hopefully none of those happens to me (although I've had a few poor guests in the last 6 months), and I have - i hope - good written info so guests expectations are where they should be.
Should Airbnb fix the bad press? (with a communist style ban?? what exactly are you suggesting?) or perhaps they should just fix their CS team and make the improvements that are brought up over and over?
Actually ABB have plenty of local host groups on FB, that i think are sponsored, and are cringingly woo-yay. I joined one briefly and then had to leave, it was just unhelpful as the ONLY posts allowed were gushing positivity; I can only imagine how they are reacting to this category roll-out.
@Gillian166 I see your point. No, I wasn't really thinking communist ban. I was thinking more along the lines that if they are taking action to have those not employed by ABB remove ABB from their site, blog, whatever, that it would be more beneficial to do that with FB first rather than the influencers first who actually contribute.
While I do understand legitimate complaints, I am amazed at the # of hosts on public forums who have no trouble at all putting ABB and themselves in really bad light. If I were a traveler reading those, I'd go anywhere else first. So what's bad for ABB imo, is also bad for us.
Which brings me to my 2nd thought - I wonder how many 'contributors' are VRBO motivated because there is no way that VRBO is all that and a bag of chips; at least not that I can tell.
Thank you for your input. I did have to take a step back as to what would that look like?
@Gillian166 oh and I am brand new lol. Everything is still all bright and shiny 🙂
@Tamara682 You can't sanitize life without stepping into Orwellian territory. I know what you mean, but the censorship that goes on nowadays is really hurtful to our society, and vital, factual information is being labelled as "misinformation" and then a year later, suddenly allowed to be seen.
I don't think VRBO types are targetting ABB, they are probably on both sites! Many years ago there was a new marketing term called "raving fans" - you wanted to make your customers so in love with your brand they advertised for you by raving about you. I'm also fairly new as a host but i remember as an early customer I loved abb so much, it changed the way we travelled as a family and I couldn't say enough good things about it.
Influencers like Sean are great, but even he isn't a raving fan anymore. He seemed a little relieved to be changing his page name, as he can now feel free to branch out and talk openly about other platforms, and perhaps point out the shortcomings at ABB. He also doesn't often guide you on how to avoid bad guests, or what to do, which is pretty much the entirety of this forum, it's kind of like a big self-help group, which is nice. Perhaps the FB groups offer people something they need in the way of support? I do find that his FB group tends to be more brutally honest and analytical. That can be tough at times!
I think you are 100% right that trashing ABB in public spaces is bad for business, but most hosts in forums aren't business people, they are employees, or ex-employees, or hobbyists, or retirees, they haven't quite got themselves in the headspace of being a business owner. Sean is a businessman, so he doesn't trash talk his business partners. The problem with this though, is that he gives a false impression of rosiness. (He hasn't yet done a vid on the Summer rollout.)
btw I just went over to BDC to make a listing and i wandered into the forums and it is terrible. i've only put up one of my listings so far, and if abb fix this search thing, i'll take it down.
Which FB group is this? You've piqued my curiosity....
