Airbnb survey feedback

Today (along with no doubt a lot of others) I was invited to take part an Airbnb survey, so, having a few minutes to spare I did it

At the end of my survey I was asked for my comments in my own words regarding my Airbnb hosting.

I thought I would share my comments with the community.....

I have said my piece....I hope someone will take notice of it!

Cheers.....Rob

@Robin4

Well said! Thank you for sharing this. This is a huge concern for me as well. So many horrible stories these days. I really feel like if anything happened Airbnb would not support me and yet they will allow anyone to book and bypass the rules and don't support us what things go wrong.

@Ben551- lol!

Instant Hotel is shot in Australia . Clearly the drama is heightened since it's reality TV, but I got some good ideas from it and it was hilarious to see the guests scramble to check-out in the first episode only to realize they were going to be rated for cleanliness (they didn't clean before leaving). I'm sure some of it was fake, but I think it should be required watching for all guests before booking Airbnb (smile)

@Christine615 Haha that sounds hilarious!

I've had mostly good experiences so far but Airbnb could go a long way if it would stop changing host rules and do more to educate guests on how the platform is unique - and how to be a good guest.

@Christine0, you nailed it!

Christine - really good idea for Airbnb to educate guests on how to be a good guest. I'm new to Hosting and I think such a "training" effort would benefit all newbies - guests and hosts. Excellent.

In lieu of an Company sponsored effort, I will include some "training" in my communications with newbie guests - if I approve their request in the first place, that is. Cheers. Erik

@Christine615, @Ben551, have watched Instant Hotel, it is incredible how nasty some people are. But for reality TV, the nastier the better, right? The nicest hosts had the most modest listing.

@Sandra126 @Ben551 My sister helps manage a ballet group that went viral for their innovative dance moves. They were visited by producers interested in a reality show but ultimately rejected because the teens and their parents were too nice and well mannered. Apparently there wasn't enough drama for a tv show and the parents refused to create it 😎

“drama”...that’s the kind of “reality” that sells...even the mainstream new is making billions hawking it for money

my guests stay with me to escape/recover from drama

 Hi Chiristne, my eldest daughter just had one of lead roles in a TV series here on Channel 10 called ,'The Secret Life of 4 and 5 year olds' which is supposed to be about the way children of those ages interact with each other. The idea was to put 10 ordinary kids in a room or a playground and see what happens.

Those kids were anything but ordinary, the producers interviewed thousands plus their parents to get the right amount of precociousness on the set!

@Christine615  @Sandra126 @Robin4wow... amazing opportunity for them, they must be incredible dancers!  But it doesn't surprise me.  I'm not usually into reality TV but I do like hotel related "fix it" type shows at the moment.  I quite liked watching Alex Polizzi's show "Hotel Inspector", but I've run out of episodes hahaha.

Oh @Robin4  I've seen some of that! It was hillarious for one episode.  They asked a kid what his father did, and he told them in the best way he could.  Then they asked what does Mummy do? He said "Mummy f4rts."  Straight faced, no jokes, matter of fact... like "the sky is blue".  I couldn't stop laughing for 15 minutes...

See if you can find “Stay Here.” My daughter told me about it. Genevieve from Trading Places redecorates Airbnb’s. Also unrealistic given my budget but I got some good ideas from it. 🙂

Loved the kid honesty story in the last post! My kids would have been just like that. We had to teach them that Not every thought in their head needs to come out of their mouths 😁

Oh thanks for that @Christine615, brilliant.  It will be good to have a few things on the playlist 🙂

@Christine

I watched 'Stay Here' on Netflix last week. I enjoyed it as light watching because I'm interested in interiors and they did some nice makeovers but, like you, I had one MAJOR problem with it, which is that they never revealed the budget for those makeovers at all. There were no prices given for labour, materials nor the vast amounts of things they bought.

There was occasionally a reference to saving the host money by repurposing something, but it didn't look like they were curbing spending at all, especially when you saw the amount of labour/tradespeople involved. They also seemed to be chucking out most of the hosts' stuff rather than repurposing it and then buying repurposed stuff from fancy stores.

Yes, the places looked great at the end and I am sure the host was then able to charge more money/get more bookings, but at what price? On one episode, the host mentioned that it was an expensive renovation, but that he hoped to recover the costs after a couple of years' of hosting. So, he's not actually going to see any profit for two more years (if it all works out). I don't see how realistic any of this is for most people, who do not have thousands sitting around to spend.

@Ben551 Was that in the Australian series or the British one?

My Sarah is one of the two teachers....the female one of course!

I can't say it was rivetting stuff. I only watched it because of the association but according to her it held top spot for it's timeslot in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane so they are going to do another series this year!

I knew it had been sold to New Zealand and also to England, so my daughter has got one up on me...she's an international shown performer, I am just a local clown!

Cheers......Rob

@Robin4  oh that's magic Rob, I can see you're a very proud Dad 🙂  I was quoting the British one yeah, but I have the Australian one on my list (once I can get my hands on it).

@Christine615 My middle daughter, who was an avid reader, used to complain about the books they assigned in English class in junior and senior high. She said they were all about families and kids with major problems and issues. Either the parents were having an ugly divorce, or the mom was dying of cancer, or the kids were getting bullied, or the parents had died in an accident and the kid was forced to live with some nasty relative. She wanted to read happy or funny stories where people got along and were doing positive things.
