Airbnb that will allow a Babyshower

Hi everyone!

My name is Todahtiyah. I’m originally from Los Angeles but currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I’m currently looking for an Airbnb that will allow me to host my baby shower. I understand times are definitely different right now with a pandemic going on. But this is my first child, and finding a venue that accommodates my budget has been a nightmare. I have family as well as friends coming to visit from Los Angeles, so I would like this to be a very intimate moment for all of us. The guest list is around 50 people along with a caterer. I’m willing to help clean up as well.

If anyone has an suggestions or will allow this special event to occur at their location, I would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know !! Thank you

What on earth is a baby shower? Incentinent storks? No nappies?

Doesn't bear thinking about!

@Todahtiyah0  I'll be honest, I think you would have better luck searching the airbnbs in your area and asking hosts directly, putting your request here in hopes that some host(s) from NC are going to see the message and want to host you is a very long shot.  But you should know in advance that many airbnbs will not allow parties at all.

@Fiona256  A baby shower is an American tradition of having a baby themed party where the mother/parents get baby gifts from their friends.

@Mark116 thank you for the feedback!

@Todahtiyah0 I really feel for you as this is your first baby but is it really a good idea to risk the lives of 50 people? We can't have that many people meeting in the UK where the virus is definitely declining. To do so in the US when the virus is accelerating feels like madness.

That said, the advice above to just make booking inquiries to Airbnbs in your area is the best way to go.

@Mike-And-Jane0,

I would not be surprised if @Todahtiyah0 has encountered problems with renting venues that can accommodate 50 people, because North Carolina's COVID-19 re-opening plan (extended through at least tomorrow) limits indoor group gatherings to 10, and outdoors is 25 people:  https://files.nc.gov/covid/documents/Phases-List.pdf.

@Todahtiyah0, I know it's your first baby, but these are not normal times.  Please have a virtual baby shower on Zoom or Facebook live, and open up an education bank that your family can contribute their airfare money to your baby's future.

Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center

@Todahtiyah0

@Debra300  has the only suggestion here that I can support. If it weren't for the pandemic, I would also recommend Peerspace over Airbnb, since it is specifically designed as an event rental platform.

But 50 people? Now? Really? Coming in from out of town and everything? Even if your state is crazy enough to allow this as infection rates are steadily rising, that doesn't mean it is safe for your loved ones and community. Best case scenario, perhaps there's an outdoor venue that can facilitate a smaller version of what you're looking for, without people flying in from a virus hotspot.

But if you want to make a positive impact on the environment you're bringing your new child into, please forego large gatherings this year and help get this deadly virus under control.

@AnonymousI agree, but people are going to do what they want, regardless of how dangerous it is. That's how we end up with "Covid parties" and other similar events.

@Todahtiyah0Try the website

 It's set up specifically for this type of thing: they even have a section for baby shower venues. Airbnb is primarily for travelers, and you're likely going to have to contact a lot of hosts before you find someone who might be willing to host a big event, especially right now.

I appreciate the link!

@Todahtiyah0   "I understand times are definitely different right now with a pandemic going on. "

In what way do you understand? Large gatherings in the midst of a deadly pandemic are irresponsible and dangerous. There are babies being born now infected with COVID. Is that what you want? An in-person baby shower is worth the risk of everyone at the event coming down with COVID, not to mention them all exposing a lot of other people as well as they travel back and forth across the country?

People all over the world have had their baby showers, birthday parties, etc. online through Zoom or other online meet-ups. That's what needs to happen now unless we want lots more people to sicken and die.

If you really think a babyshower is "necessary" for you and your family, try

There are dedicated spaces designed for baby shower. Be sure to practice social distancing and ask everyone to wear masks at all time. Also if there's any local restrictions on the maximum number of people for gatherings, make sure that's followed as well.

@Nick @Quincy As a couple of legitimate (non-advertising) contributors, @Nanxing0 and @Alexandra316  assisted the guest by recommending a website that was more appropriate for her needs, and I see that the link has now been censored as "inappropriate."  I don't see a single item in the CC Guidelines saying that you can't help another user by referring them to a different website - for example, people discuss comparisons between Airbnb and VRBO on an almost daily basis without appearing to be in breach of the rules.

Could you please explain why you chose to censored the link to Peerspace? I have also always referred people looking for event rentals to this site as well - not to divert legit trade from Airbnb, but rather because the Airbnb platform does not support non-accommodation rentals. I would appreciate some clarification about why Airbnb finds this to be "inappropriate." Are you forbidding all references to potential competitors? Or are URLs now banned?

@Anonymous Yes, odd. And I love Airbnb, but it's not great for finding event venues. You can't even filter for places that allow parties anymore through the search filter. I'd like to know too, because it wasn't meant to be inappropriate.

Hi @Anonymous @Nanxing0 @Alexandra316

I hope you all had a great weekend! As for the question, the link was removed as it falls under the solicitation clause in the guidelines. To be fair it's a bit of a grey area because as you say it's a recommendation to help someone, but at the same time it is promoting another site (the fact it's a competitor has nothing to do with it, we don't even "ban" discussions on how to prosecute Airbnb for example, so let's put the whole "censorship" thing to rest please).

You are more than welcome to suggest Peerspace or any other site without linking it just to be 100% sure that it won't be flagged/removed (exactly how you did on your post above @Anonymous) or you can send the link via DM.

Besides, the original poster had already seen and replied to the link when that was removed. The advise-recommendation was given, but letting the link for anyone else to see indefinitely would be a form of advertising. I'm sure all three of you know how much we appreciate your contributions here, and I'd also like to believe you wouldn't think we'd remove something if we didn't have to follow the guidelines and our workflow.

Here's to a great week ahead!
Nick
