Hi everyone!
My name is Todahtiyah. I’m originally from Los Angeles but currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I’m currently looking for an Airbnb that will allow me to host my baby shower. I understand times are definitely different right now with a pandemic going on. But this is my first child, and finding a venue that accommodates my budget has been a nightmare. I have family as well as friends coming to visit from Los Angeles, so I would like this to be a very intimate moment for all of us. The guest list is around 50 people along with a caterer. I’m willing to help clean up as well.
If anyone has an suggestions or will allow this special event to occur at their location, I would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know !! Thank you
@Nanxing0 If every country in the world, and every region within those countries had closed their borders when this virus reared its ugly head, mandated and enforced distancing and mask wearing and self-isolation, this would all be over by now. It would have been over in a month. Those who got sick would have recovered or died and those who were infected but asymptomatic wouldn't have infected others. Humans are their own worst enemies.
@Sarah977 I completely agree with your point but scientifically it might not be that good. You can see that even in those countries with the most strict quarantine and isolation rule, there are still new cases coming up. This virus is much more cunning than most diseases we have ever encountered.
The current situation is that we as humans are facing the most cunning and tough enemy and some ignorant people are still focusing on fighting with fellow humans on something else.
@Nanxing0 Yes, there's still a lot of unknowns about this virus. But there actually are places where they got it down to no new cases. Then they'd get a new case because someone travelled somewhere else and came back without following the proper protocol. This happened in a Canadian province- they were down to no new cases, then some doctor, of all people went to another province and came back- he got infected himself and then infected others.
And you know as well as I do that even in places where they've had really strict quarantine and isolation rules, all it takes is one or two people who don't comply and before you know it, there's another uptick in cases.
Telling someone to think of their unborn child is definitely moralizing. And I'm not saying that I would make the same choice as them. I'm saying that parents and parents-to-be are judged in a thousand different ways. We have no idea of this person's circumstances, when they want to hold the event, or any other details. Surely they've heard of the virus and they're making their choices based on the conclusions they've drawn for themselves. And if the government allows it, who are we to tell them otherwise?
Again, here, we're allowed to hold gatherings of 100 outside and 50 inside. I feel it's a mistake: others don't, and will be going ahead with weddings, parties, etc. etc. etc. We'll see what the result is in the next few weeks. I'm glad that the border with the US remains closed, but I'm looking forward to being able to travel to Europe.
@Alexandra316 @Todahtiyah0 Current information on the North Carolina Covid website indicates that Executive Order #141 is in force until "at least" August 7th.
"Section III. Clarification to Restrictions on Parties and Receptions.
Section 7 of Executive Order No. 141 is amended to add the following subsection.
E. Limit on Receptions or Parties. Parties and receptions, like all other private events
or convenings which are not excepted from the prohibition on Mass Gatherings, are
limited to the Mass Gathering limit of ten ( 10) people indoors or twenty-five (25)
people outdoors. This limit applies regardless whether the event takes place in a
restaurant, in a conference center, in a hotel ballroom, in a venue that is used
exclusively for receptions or parties, or in some other space open under this Executive Order"
The OP doesn't indicate when this shower is planned for, but I imagine part of the difficulty in finding a location may be due to the current in-force executive order. Airbnb hosts in NC should not be put in the position of being asked to break the law regarding gatherings. If the gathering is planned for any time up through August 7th, the OP has two choices. Keep the original guest list, and "go remote", or reduce the guest list to be in compliance with the current order.
