All ways look on the bright side of life

Hello, I am fairly new to Airbnb and I wondered if others wanted to share their funny experiences in let's say 300 words, no names or dates.

Mine is we had three sisters, booked in for four days. One living in the UK, one flying in from the States and the other flying in from Ireland.

From the messages all very keen to meet up for a reunion.

I met one of the sisters on the second morning in the garden and she said "lovely house but I cannot get the others to come out." I did not see the others throughout their stay (we live next door) I only saw them get in the car to leave to go to the airport.

When we entered our airbnb, they had rearranged the chairs into a circle in the sitting room so they could all talk to each other, the TV cabinet had not been opened.

So all we can assume is they spent four days and evenings talking to each other.

We got the inevitable feedback, "lovely house, warm and comfortable but . . . we did not discover the other loo and walk in shower on the ground floor, until we were leaving for the airport!", so they had sat and talked and talked and talked, then went upstairs for the loo when there was another on the same floor just a minute away from where they were sitting.

Feedback said "the door was closed when we arrived so we never tried going in". Needless to say our listing shows photographs and descriptions of all our facilities.    😉

The bright side of life to us is that because of Airbnb, nowadays we can live where we want (the tropics and no longer in the U.S.), make a handsome living and get to travel to the last faraway places on this Earth that we still feel compelled to visit (Galapagos, Antarctica, South Pacific, Eastern Mediterranean, etc). No other platforms have come up even remotely close to such good fortune.

Sure a few times a year, we may have to put up with some Airbnb CS person who hasn't ran a popsicle stand in their life trying to hustle us into allowing an inconsiderate guest (our 'fellow' man) trying to get away with murder, and sometimes they win, but overall we have never been treated better nor fairer by Airbnb in 7 years.

In turn, we have never have stopped improving our place and thus be a plus to them with the Thrillist and Penterest doing constant stories on us and giving Airbnb all the credit and free advertising. Nor do we bring them any hassles; we control our guests and solve any issues that comes up ourselves. There is no room in our outfit for silly guest attitudes or delusions, but plenty of opportunity for a great time.

Lately, Airbnb is trying (really experimenting) with some policies that actually been somewhat there for 3 years but never enforced. It is a process, as usual it will take some tweaking and as always it is not a straight line to the final.

Count us in the grateful column if anything because we can imagine what life would be like without Airbnb.

Is there a good discussion thread about upcoming changes to procedures like i heard there was coming policy if you get a bug complaint for instance you lose your income

A couple of years ago before Covid manifest itself I had a guest couple from Shanghai staying here.

The first morning of their stay the husband and I were sitting out in our garden having a 'get to know you' talk when his wife came up and joined us.

She said with a heavy Asian accent...."While we are here we want to see, Koala!"

I said to her....."Well they are in this area but you won't see one walk up the path, your best chance is to go to one of the "local wildlife parks!"

I had no sooner said it and this guttural grunt came from the tree behind us and there, lo and behold was...... a Koala!!

We turned around and just stared at it, and I was absolutely sure they both thought it was plastic and I was blue-toothing it to respond with my phone!!

I was relieved and they were delighted when it moved a bit further up the tree.....she got her wish!

Cheers........Rob

I just want to say thank you for your thread. I was just thinking to myself that as a new host, I will have to limit my exposure to all the complaints. They are educational for planning and awareness, but after a while I feel I should just pack up my bags because good guests are rare and ABB will give away my farm.
I know that's not true fortunately and I look forward to following this thread.
Thanks again.
