Belgium must lift all Covid-19 measures in 30 days, Brussels Court Rules

Hot off the press overnight from Belgium

It was incredible timing to read this because somehow I left my keys inside my home and rather than pay the expense of after hours call out charges I contact a local Belgium friend if I could stay at their home overnight!

They woke up to this news which they are delighted about.

One of them is currently in Belgium whilst the other is in New Zealand.

Let's hope we get some normality and common sense back in our lives.

Everywhere in Europe is the same. Too many Covid cases.

I'm under quarantine at home. 13 days so far (one more day left) because my mother got the virus. She is 72. In mild condition, but after 20 days, her tests are still positive and some symptoms still show up from time to time.

A decree is based on a law.

A law and a decree restricting individual freedoms must be based on precise information (duration, scope, causes).
If the loss of freedom is abnormally greater than the causes or if the law or decree are too imprecise, it is declared invalid.

It is standard procedure to check that the 'solutions' must match the causes.

@Helen427 the same happened here in the Netherlands: the court said nope, not allowed, then the government promptly overturned it. I would expect something similar with our neighbours.

@Alexandra316

Nice to see you are still about.

Have you escaped Canada for a bit?

Good on you if you have!

Government, including there University Academic Advisors, have to still adhere to the Law, none of us are above it, are we???

Hmm!!

Interesting times ahead for all.

@Helen427 in  Norway ? You must be n !! There is no such thing as you implicate, I live here, I know ! Even Sweden who started out with a liberal approach has now reverted to more conventional ways of containing the spread after the health system were on the brink of collapsing.

I for one is happy to live in a country with a responsible government, otherwise the older population would have had to be imprisoned for more than a year or risk to die. I may be old, but I am not ready to die just yet and I believe also the elderly deserve a certain quality of life.

@Helen3 we happen to live in a country where most of us abide with rules and regulations and restrictions have proved effective in containing the spread.

@Robin4 I can assure you that no responsible European government will allow a massacre.

@Marit-Anne0

Hey good on you.

You and I, we have been here since 2015, you were one of those great contributors along with Dave, Clare, Andrea and Helga who helped shape me into a competent host, a debt I will never be able to repay.

It's great to see that you understand the significance of Covid-19 and it's implications if you chose to try and legislate against its existence.

Like you @Marit-Anne0 I live in a country with a responsible government.....and because of that my last hosting year has been the best since I started, back those 6 years ago. I earned almost $30,000 from hosting last year.....that's an average of almost $2,500 per month.....$620 per week. When you are of a pension age and have a disabled wife to support, that sort of money is priceless!

We in Australia depend on international tourism for a large percentage of our income, and for the past year that tourism has been non-existent.

We just want governments, wherever they are around the world, to be responsible and realise that the first priority is to beat Covid-19! Once you have done that you can think about your human rights and getting the economy back on track.

Take care up there in Norway, I still want to get up your way and do a northern lights cruise and Troms it's a great stepping off point...and you do have the best of both worlds, Norway in the summer and the south of France in the winter.....what a life, take care!

Cheers........Rob
