Broken macerator in the bathroom
As our guest was leaving on Friday she mentioned that the toilet was not flushing and that the sinks were not draining. On inspection I discovered that she had broken the macerator by using wipes. There are signs in the bathroom explicitly saying that wipes cannot be used. I had guests arriving in 4 hours time. I had to buy a new macerator and luckily my husband was able to fit it.
How do I stand in regards to claiming from her? It was such a panic on Friday trying to sort it out that I didn't think to lodge the claim.
Reading the T and C's today I think I may have missed the window of time to make such a claim. Can anyone help. The new macerator cost me £385.

@Helen67 If you didn't claim in time and the guest doesn't want to pay then you have zero hope of being recompensed for the damage.

@Helen67 You have two weeks to file, but you have to also file before your next guest, otherwise Airbnb will deny the claim saying you can't prove which guest it was.

Thanks, in the panic I read the 14 day bit but not the next guest bit..... From sorting it out to next guest arriving was approximately 15 mins. Making a claim was not top of the list of priorities. With photographic evidence that is time stamped I don't know why the next guest rule exists. But there we are - guess I'll put it down to experience.
With this particular guest it was doubly frustrating as her children had wet the beds two nights running as well!

You might try requesting reimbursement directly from the guest, providing pictures of the damage, signs and receipts. If they see that you are fully prepared to file a legal claim they might just pay.
It’s a long shot but some people are responsible enough to do the right thing. I would.

Gosh @Helen67 , is this the first time that happened? I hate to sound pessimistic but it surely won’t be the last! We had a macerator from hell, too, once upon a time, until we gritted our teeth and got the plumbing changed (expensive). Technically or financially, that may not be an option for you.
If I may give you some advice, I’d say you should keep a spare macerator at hand in the house. It may save your bacon one day!
And **bleep** those dratted wipes! Why DO people insist on flushing them down the loo? 🤬
