What advice can you give me if a guest has stayed for certain days then wants to cancel the stay nearly to the check out date?

A guest is allowed to cancel a reservation at any time. The attached cancellation policy will calculate the refund (if any). The guest must cancel the reservation, not the host !

Alternative:

The guest (or the host) can use the "change"  option on the reservation to shorten the reservation to the new check-out date.
