Cancellation without notification

Cancellation without notification

Hello, I have received the reservation on 30th of July for 25  days in August, check in date was on 1 August. Yesterday i'm checking the calendar and see that it's empty, than checking the reservation and it's status is cancelled. I haven't got any notification neither any sms from Airbnb.com. I'm writing now to support team they don't have answer why didn't let me know about cancellation, but regarding reservation the're telling me that it was illegal and payment was fraud. I think that it's not my problem, my policy was moderate and i have to be paid out fully, as from my side i have done everything right and i had right to know if the reservation is been cancelled. What do you think?

@Ilia2743  Airbnb's been quite a mess lately, lots of glitches and terrible customer service, which is probably why you didn't get a notification of the cancellation.

If Airbnb is unable to get the guest's payment, no, you will never be paid for that. It may not seem fair, but that's how it is.  Consider yourself lucky- hosts have had guests arrive and stay, only for Airbnb to tell them afterwards "Oh, sorry, but we were unable to collect on the guest's payment".

And as a host, I would never accept a 25 day reservation made 2 days before the check-in date. In fact, I don't accept last minute reservations at all, because those are the ones that most often result in failure of payment.

Not to mention, a guest who plans so poorly that they are scrambling to find a place for 25 days 2 days before check-in, isn't a guest I want. There could be legitimate reasons why a guest may find themselves in that sort of position, but it's not worth the risk to me.

If you examine the payment term of service at section 9.2 , you will see there isn't a hope to be paid if the money can't be collected initially. You can't absolve yourself by saying 'it's not my problem'.

Probably that's all that airbnb know as well, the payment method used turned out to be fraudulent, so they cancel. As far as the communications go, I think there is previous form of fraudulent bookings vanishing from calendars.  As @Sarah977  points out, there is increased peril from last minute bookings.

@Ilia2743 Apart from being disappointed your loss is effectively only that the property was blocked from other bookings for a day or so. This is way better than Airbnb allowing a reservation to go ahead with a fraudulent payment card and then you not being paid at all.

I have had that happen before. While frustrating, it is much better outcome than hosting somebody for 25 days who is fried! What would hold them back from stealing from you and trashing your apartment?
