Community Center social online meetup: Friday April 10th

Hello everyone,

I do hope you are all doing ok.

I've been speaking to many of you over the past couple of weeks and several of you seemed keen to attend a social online meetup with fellow CC members–which I think is a terrific idea!

The background to this is that at a London Superhost event in early March, @Paul1255 and I were hatching a grand plan for a community get together. At this time the Coronavirus was only on the horizon in the UK and so we were very hopeful of meeting together and eating lots of tasty food that we had all baked. Alas, this isn't going to happen right now, but it will definitely happen in the future and I think it's good to have nice things to look forward to. But, I still think it would be great during this difficult time to have a bit of a get together and talk about whatever we like (plus expand it, as location won't be an issue). 

The aim is not to talk about Airbnb specifically (so it's slightly different to the Listening Sessions), but to come together and have a chat. 

I know this is short notice, but I thought we could hold  our first meetup this week at Friday April 10th, 9pm UK time*, which I hope will enable some of our friends from around the world to join. If this time is terrible we can have a rethink, so do let me know. 

If this sounds great and you would like to join please let me know below or via DM and feel free to share any topics you think would be nice to discuss or themes. I will then send you the link to the meetup.

- UK: April 10th, 9PM

- New York (EST): April 10th, 4PM

- San Francisco (PST): April 10th, 1PM  (this may have to be your lunchtime!)

- Sydney: April 11th, 6am (sorry this is super early)

@LizzieThat would be great. A lot of my international travel has been cancelled due to Covid and with every conference switching to virtual, I'm used to "time shifting".

7am New York is only 6am Midwest. Will put it on my calendar. Thanks!

Thanks @Lizzie  for the opportunity to be part of the meetup. I must admit though, the before dawn conversation was a bit of a shock to the system, but your lovely faces made up for it!

haha! yeah, I bet @Cathie19. If it had been 5:30am in the UK, I would not look half as awake as you and Sandra!

That sounds like a great time (9 pm Sydney), I would be in that like, a pig into Brawn!

Zoom has so taken off these days, we did a family video chat the other night, it was so good.

Hey @Lizzie, 9pm Sydney time is actually 7pm Albany time (I'm in Western Australia, not Queensland, and we're currently 2 hours behind the east coast). Anyway, that time would have worked for me, but it's actually my birthday this Friday and I'm having an online catch-up with some friends to drink margaritas and play cards! But thanks for the invite anyway! I'd love to come to the next one 🙂

I look forward to speaking with you soon (and hopefully I will get the timing right - very tricky - I will have to consult my timezone guru website again to see what went wrong- honestly Albany was the first location I took a look at!)

Thanks @Lizzie. It must be SO tricky to get the timing right. Here in WA (and in Qld) we have the problem that the rest of the country has daylight savings and we don't (apparently in WA, daylight savings causes your curtains to fade and verandah paint to peel). So, from Oct-April, we're 3 hours behind, and from April-Oct, we're 2 hours behind. Confusing! Thanks for the birthday wishes and have a great meeting. Hopefully see you at the next one!
