Hi! I'm setting up a listing for our home for summer rentals. For security reasons I don't wish to use our village postcode or village name on the listing as the village is such a tiny place that the house could easily be identified. Obviously, am happy to provide exact address at time of booking but beforehand do not want to risk being targeted by burglars? Have tried editing 'location' under 'listing details' but it insists on having my postcode which basically narrows it down to a very small number of houses in the village... Would like to say 'in the region of...' Anyone else managed to get around this? Thanks for your advice.
@Madeleine241 We used to be able to post our location as in a general area of the closest large city to preserve some anonymity, but now the OTAs will use the registered address postcode of the property and the GPS coordinates. So you will have to do as we all do and run the risk of bad actors using Air and our calendars to learn when a property may be ripe for burglary. When you take your pictures, be sure to not include address markers and try to angle your exterior shots --- take from the side, or not directly from the road view.
You can also use the map marker that is a large blue circle -- it does not always center on your precise address, but indicates that you are in this region.
Hi Lorna, thanks for your reply and advice - I thought I had sent through a reply already but just seeing here that it doesn't seem to have registered - apologies - am new to this! I find this location thing rather frustrating - even just limiting the angles/types of photos I post, I still reckon you could find the house with google satellite in 30 seconds, just by the shape of the pool for a start and the fact we have a garden. Our community is so small. Hey ho! Thanks for getting back to me anyway
