Experiences

Hi

I ran quite successfully tours in Phuket back before the dreaded covid took over. Way back in November 2019 i got a couple of messages about being over paid, but didn't quite understand it, they were brief message basically saying. We Airbnb have paid you out twice but dont worry we will take it back and sort it. It was high season, i was busy, i never took much notice and there was nothing to respond to or do anyway it was just a message they had over paid me.

So come march obviously covid kicked in my tours had to stop, world went into meltdown, I cant remember when exactly but i got 1 booking, when the time came for payment nothing, i questioned airbnb they said an issue with my bank re submit the details. Did that still nothing, they then after a few back and forths decided to tell me i was in negative and owed them money, i had forgotten about the emails in November so took me a while to click on.

I then realized i was like 3000 in debt to them big shock with no income and yes i should have been more on the ball but i was pretty much a one man band with the wife looking after the money in and out i didn't realize. So after many back and forth chats with them they stated i should set up a new payment method. So i have done that, phuket is now open up but little business, i have just had a booking, great i thought income after over a year. But guess what they took the full amount again. Now i get i owe the money thats not an issue, my issue is they dont want to help me by just taking a small amount until things are back to normal. I have to pay for the experiance up front, but if they just take all the money. Its impossible for me to carry on. They lose i dont pay back the money, i lose i cant make an income. what can i do? do any real humans work at airbnb who would understand if they help me out we both benefit or should i give in.

Hi @Carl216 , I am both Experiences and Home host. For a duplicate payment you mentioned, I also got the same problem and when I check my payment. Yes it was duplicated, Airbnb pay me twice so they end up deducted my later payment.

In your case, I think you may already check all and may found the error. You may try call Airbnb Thailand help center to make your case fix. 021056167 ( on weekdays)

Wish it help,

Sorry about your situation.  @Carl216 It's a shame you didn't query the over payment at the time.  3000 is a lot of money if in dollars, euro's etc - not so much if in Thailand.

I presume though you aren't solely reliant on Airbnb Experience for your total family income ? (If it is I would focus on diversifying your income streams . )

if Airbnb have overpaid you they are a business and you are a business  and they  will seek to recover this ASAP .  I don't think it's reasonable for you to expect them to subsidise your business by not collecting the debt you owe ASAP

PS its about 100,000 baht roughly 3000 dollars

I did query the overpayment when i got the email initially but never got any responses, apparently they did it to loads of people on experiences. Was not a big deal for me at the time, all was good, but i haven't had a customer since March, bar the 2 they haven't paid me for.  I also totally get they are a business, so it would make good business sense for them to work with me to pay back this money by not talking the full amount, every time i do an experiance. I dont have the funds to pay to do the experiences all  my savings have gone. So i will have to stop running them, which means they dont get the money back i dont have an income. It is my only source of income in Thailand i have a rental which cant be rented out and i sell tours not just on Airbnb, but no customers, the place is decimated. All I'm asking from Airbnb is to come to a deal where they take a percentage until the deficit is paid back otherwise they end up with nothing because for sure i cant run any more tours without funds.

Hello Community

Hello
@Nutth0

I am new to ABB and excited about the future! So far bookings are going well

What interests me also is experiences. I would like to have set hosting dates where I have guests who require/desire specific dietary meal types. Therefore it will be a combination of hosting a stay and also an experience for all guests at that time.

I have access and communication with the potential guests already. Apart from getting a food license for my kitchen can you/any one enlighten me to how the process might start.

In the applications for Experiences there were no responses that reflected that I want to host, as well as give experiences at the same time.

Dear @Jillian188,  so glad that things are going well on your hosting journey.

You're mentioned a very great plan of combine Home host plus experiences. It is used to happened before, it is call Airbnb Adventure. ( I am not sure it's still have this program or not).

Back to the way you may do and here are the options.

1) just write in a note of your listing that you can offer a meal. You can collect your service via Airbnb Resolution Center. This is easy way as you don’t have to create Airbnb's experiences listing but may limit only guest who book your place and it may request a lot of message chat before agree.

2) Create you Airbnb Experiences listing, if is not the same as home. You have to write your idea to Airbnb and they will choose to accept or not. After your experience get live, you can send a link to your potential guests. Other guests can also join.

You may start at only 1 meal but after you get more confident, you can adjust menu depend on date or season in your listing.

I have a friend, who do something similar. She host cooking class at her Airbnb home so guest who stay with her can join.

Hope this helps,

Nutth
