Day 26: The Yule Log

The Yule log

There is a tradition in Provence (South of France) that is being slowly forgotten; let's rediscover it!

For Christmas, the oldest member of the family and the youngest would light, in the hearth, a log from a fruit tree, cut in the spring.

Every day, until the New Year, it was burnt down little by little to leave the old behind and move towards the new... It was also blessed with these wishes: "See you next year, if we are not more, let us not be less!"

Each of us can extrapolate from this:

Let's be less worried, less bored, less bitter; let's be more hopeful, more peaceful, more serene!

Let's not put off things any longer, and instead let's make the most of the days to come on a long, tranquil river …

Happy New Year to all!

@Martine1157 what a lovely tradition that you have shared with us.

My question is  Do you put a new piece of wood from the same tree each day and keep it burning, or do you light it each day?

A nothing question ( just a thought with a smile) Do we have to have another drink or take a deep big breath in for the positiveness that is in the air?

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and you have a Happy New Year

Bonjour

Belle continuation

Martine
