Forbidding guests

Hi there!

I recently stayed at an Airbnb that explicitly had written on the window that there are no guests allowed. Me and my friend just assumed that this must mean that nobody else is allowed to sleep over, so he came over for dinner. Halfway into eating, my host came over to inform me that he had to leave. Is this ok??

Hi Ariane , It is difficult to understand that the property that you rent is not actually yours to entertain in. the host appears to have bad policies and methods. He should have sent a text , stating the information, not arrived.most people are tolerant of dinners or small family get to gethers but do generally state that it is at their discretion and so you must ask if its okay , otherwise things can and do escalate and what may be a quiet dinner can turn into a party with lots of people .   H

If I weren't an Airbnb host I probably would have assumed that no guests meant no guests overnight. Obviously, Airbnb's are not hotels, but that is the experience most people start with and many hotels don't have restrictions about bringing one or two guests to your room.

As a host, I do specify how many people can be in the house at any time and how many may stay overnight. At my property they aren't the same number. I didn't think about making that distinction until people started asking me about having local family over for game nights and cookouts.

Misunderstandings happen even when people think they are being perfectly clear.

Your host might have let your friend finish eating, but it is his house. When I hear about rules I don't understand, I always think there must an interesting story behind it.

You are a rebel @Ariane321

problem you have is not with host/ airbnb

but with the authority & rule-breaking.

1.  Once you ignore 'explicitly written warnings on the window'

2. Then, you will claim not to see 'writing on the wall'

3. Next you will ask from inside a Bank Vault, assuming only 2 bags with money are allowed - &  if the COPS asking you to 'follow them' is really OK??

Nope, is not OK : - )
