We have been hosts for over a year. We haven’t experienced this situation before...Reservation started yesterday but the guest did not communicate and did not show up. The guest is new to Airbnb. I messaged several times, called and eventually texted. The apartment is in our basement. By 10:00 last night we changed the code saying please contact us for access. They finally messaged via phone not Airbnb at 3:30 a.m. saying the pass was closed due to snow. They supposedly live in our same city with initial reservation stating they are on a business trip. We also have the same area code. We still have not been messaged from guest through Airbnb. We are not sure what to do at this time. It feels like someone made a reservation for someone else:/
@Brenda834 if the guest is a no-show and does not cancel, there is not necessarily anything you need to do. You will be paid, regardless.
However, it is true that third-party bookings are against Airbnb terms of service (unless it is specifically booked as a "work" trip by an authorized booker). So if the guest still wants to arrive, and you're not comfortable with it, you can call Airbnb and explain this.
If they try to get a refund due to "extenuating circumstances" that would not have affected the booking user I am not sure what position Airbnb would take.
In your shoes I would probably leave it alone unless/until you get a cancellation or someone other than the booking user wants to check in, at which point I would call Airbnb.
AirBnB number:
United States and Canada | +1-415-800-5959 |
For Superhosts (they will verify you):
North America: +1-647-945-9627 +1.888.326.5753
Just do your part: Contact the guest and contact airbnb, then wait. Hopefully you'll get paid for hosting nobody!
@Brenda834 @Pete69 personally, I wouldn't initiate contact with Airbnb, due to the possibility of triggering a cancellation and extenuating circumstances refund.
