Guests used white bath towels to clean up grape soda

I have guests that just checked out today.  When I entered the room to start cleaning for the next guests, I discovered  three bath towels covered in purple splatter.  I found an empty bottle of grape soda in the room so my guess is that they had an accident and decided to clean the mess up with the white bath towels?

I just don’t understand.  I provide all of my guests with a large roll of paper towels during their stay so that they can clean up any spills, but the paper towels that I left with them look untouched.  They could have also messaged me if they were unsure how to clean something up as I live on the property.  Instead they chose to use white bath towels (which I will probably have to replace now) and just left them for me to discover without saying anything like it’s no big deal.

Up until this point everything had been fine with these guests but after this I do not want them back.  I want to leave an honest review of them to warn other hosts but I have never had to write a bad guest review before.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@Suzanne302  Ah, I wasn't aware of  purple shampoo you're talking about. Sounds basically like hair dye. (Gotta love these marketing terms they come up with- "color depositing" - aka dye that will stain your towels)

I've had some of my white towels stained lately from guests. No amount of of soaking/bleaching/washing has managed to get the stains out. I think the reason is that instead of telling me so I could soak immediately (I live on site) they left the stained towels for me to find. I've updated my rules to communicate that if they damage/stain/break anything, to let me know immediately to minimize damage/cost, or they will be charged to replace. That might work for you, especially if you live on site, to avoid future issues. 3 out of last 5 guests left me stained stuff that won't come out and I had to buy replacements-that's what finally made me decide to add that verbage.

@Robin807 I once had an experience with a long term guest.  He blocked the toilet and it went all over the bathroom floor, wait for it, he wiped the floor up with all the towels, both hand, face and bath towels and then proceeded to hang them back up in the bathroom without telling me.  I thought he decided to use the mop and paper towels that I had provided him for the clean up.  I later went in to clean it thoroughly with bleach and disinfectant.  I had gloves on the whole time.  I then went wash my hands!  Imagine the horror on my face after realising what he had done!

@Cecilia155 That is so gross! I’m sorry you had such a clueless guest. I’ll take purple hair dye on my towels over what is found in a toilet any day. Kind of makes you wonder what their towels at home look like. Scratch that I don’t want to know.

We found purple spots on our comforter covers and white robes. A little detective work lead to Tide pods. Alcohol was the solution. Will never use Tide again.
