Hi everyone,
Is anyone else concerned that Joe Gebbia has joined DOGE?
Does he still earn income from Airbnb as a board member? This makes me very sad as I can't support a guy like that. I really like the service airbnb provides and the ease of use for a host.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Joanna
That's it! I'm only listing my STVR on VRBO, and will personally never stay at an Airbnb property ever again.
****** Gebbia and ****** Airbnb if they don't fire his ass!!
I would never stay at you place because of this post
cool
This is boycott is upsetting. I’ve hosted for 11 years .. renting out my second bedroom. I’ve now dear friends around the world from hosting and being a guest. As a teacher and artist the income has helped me greatly. I’m not taking away housing nor am I gentrifying my neighborhood .
Gebbia left Airbnb in 2022 but remains on the board …His continued presence is causing problems. It would be a positive statement for the company to get rid of him.
In Airbnbs defense it hasn’t folded to Trump. It hasn’t changed its DEI protocols , still houses people during disasters, continues to allow users to book rooms in Ukraine without fees getting money directly to Ukrainian families and has a Community Fund that distributes money to organizations supporting communities around the world.
It’s not the enemy but has for many years been an easy target and now Gebbia is making things worse. Anyway, my 2 cents best from a neighbor in Oakland.

It is obvious that this man his supporting the destructive and imperialistic ambitions of the current mafia "running" the US federal government. He ends his post with a greeting from Gulf of America to the state of Greenland, a sovereign territory and people of another nation that explicitly stated they will never submit to become MAGA subjects.
Airbnb, just like other companies who feed these insatiable madmen with wealth need to sanction them. Until they do, we need to vote with our wallets. I have boycotted my 13 year old account since the beginning of year with only one emergency exception and will slowly fade out prior bookings.
I suggest that hosts find other platforms or we find ways to come into contact more directly without feeding this destructive machine.
So thrilled to hear he is doing that! Awesome to see him give of his time to help our country get rid of waste fraud and abuse, you should be applauding that.
Are you applauding the cuts to funding and cuts to jobs they are making in the VA @Dalena669
all of it
Huh?
In reality, no, not concerned here in Australia - there has been some chat, but to be fair, most hosts and guests for that matter, would not even know who Joe is - or Brian, for that matter. My view is this seems to be more of a US issue and the further away you get from the US - the less of an issue it is.
Wow @Geoff7 its so disappointing to see a member of the host advisory board who is meant to be representing our interests say they are not concerned about the impact on the Airbnb brand of having Joe Gebbia remain involved.
If you had done your research on this community and of media coverage, you would see this post is one of many that have been posted including one I posted when the news originally broke.
many hosts and guests have said they will no longer use Airbnb while he remains involved.
And the recent announcements by the UK, Canada and other countries that there are now government travel advisories against travel to the US because of recent incidents where ICE is snatching people of the street and holding them without access to legal counsel is bound to affect US hosts as bookings will plummet as overseas visitors stop visiting the US .
what is happening in the US sadly affects us all as you will have seen the impact on the Tesla brand and on Trmps businesses is not just being seen in the US but throughout the world too.
please listen to your fellow hosts and guests most of whom are expressing deep concerns about the impact of Joe Gebbia and his involvement with DOGE on Airbnb and as Airbnb remain tone deaf to our concerns help us lobby for him to no longer be involved .
Thats your view - but heads up for you - just because I am on the HAB does not mean I can or will be forced into any view I do not agree with. And your views are not shared by those Hosts in Australia or New Zealand in any event. In fact, I think our bookings have actually increased.
Lucky you. In Europe we have the US encouraging Russia to invade from the east and the US itself looking to invade (Greenland) from the west. I'm glad you feel safe in your part of the world, the actions of AirBnB have led me to remove both my listings from the site. A stable, co-operative planet benefits tourism, this is something which the likes of Gebbia does not appreciate nor care about.
This is boycott is upsetting and not where our resistance should be focused. I’ve hosted for 11 years .. renting out my second bedroom. I’ve now dear friends around the world from hosting and being a guest. As a teacher and artist the income has helped me greatly. I’m not taking away housing nor am I gentrifying my neighborhood .

Yes, I'm mortified and I won't book here again until he's removed from the board.
