New cleaning protocols in may
Is it true there will have to be 24 hours between bookings if you comply with cleaning protocols and 72 hours if you dont?

Hello everyone,
@Melonie7, @Jessica-and-Henry0, @Susan17, @Sarah977, @Mark116, @Shannon199, @Amy375,
Just to provide you a little more clarity around this from the Airbnb Team.
The new cleaning protocol is not mandatory. Hosts who follow the new cleaning guidelines will get a special call-out on their listings. For hosts who choose not to commit or can’t commit to the protocol, we’re offering an optional 72-hour booking buffer between stays. For more information, please refer to this Resource Center article: Coming soon: A new Enhanced Cleaning Initiative for hosts
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lizzie

@Lizzie -- why were hosts not told about this before the media? It's unacceptable.

Even if this new cleaning protocol is not mandatory, many hosts did have B2Bs reserved BEFORE the coronavirus outbreak and travel came to a stop. These already scheduled B2Bs can be over the course of several months after travel opens back up (hopefully June). If the host decides to cancel a B2B in order to comply with this new cleaning protocol, then the host loses their ever coveted Superhost Status. But if a host decides to not cancel those B2Bs, they lose this new COVID19 Cleaning Status. This cleaning status essentially adds another hierarchy or preferred booking status for hosts, and will screw over hosts in the long run by lowering their search ranking if they dont comply. But you can’t comply if you want to keep your Superhost status AND you have future B2Bs scheduled. It’s an impossible status to uphold for hosts being honest. This is wrong and must be addressed by Airbnb.

Has anyone used an O zone machine to kill virus. Check google "OZONE STERILIZATION PROVEN TO KILL SARS-COV VIRUS."

ONE STERILIZATION PROVEN TO KILL SARS-COV VIRUS
There are currently no examples in the public domain, of ozone sterilization being used to kill the current strain of Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (technical name of the Coronavirus which causes the COVID-19 disease). However, there are reasons to believe it would be effective:
- During the SARS epidemic of 2003, ozone sterilization was successfully used to purify environments infected with the deadly Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-1, the virus which causes the SARS disease.
- As SARS-Cov-1 is also a member of the Coronavirus family, it is highly likely that ozone sterilization would be effective at killing SARS-CoV-2, the Coronavirus which causes the COVID-19 disease.

@Steve588 I hope that ozone can be used as an alternative to coating everything with multi-surface disinfectant. I've reviewed the new airbnb *sanitizing* requirements (38 pages, no issue with the cleaning requirements) and I'm reluctant to spray sanitizer on the blinds. Washing all of the drapes on the highest possible heat between each guest will destroy the embroidered designs. Rugs and upholstery are not required to be washed or sprayed down. Perhaps ozone could be used to sterilize the window coverings, rugs, and upholstery?

@Lizzie Any updates on when we should expect to see the new cleaning protocol, and when the "opt-in" might be available ?

I checked our 2019 calendar and there were 26 instances of same day in/out last year. We would have to adjust the price or the cleaning fee to compensate for that much lost revenue going forward.

I am tired! After carefully reading the new cleaning protocol handbook from Airbnb, I still have questions. If you followed the room-by-room checklists from Airbnb, you would need more than one full 8 hour day to clean a house.
For example - the kitchen - Airbnb tells us to wash all dishes and pots and pans in the kitchen each time, and to wash by hand if no dishwasher. Then take everything out of the pantry and cupboards and wipe them down.
For the main area they ask you to wash throw pillow covers and curtains after each visit.
Can you see a hotel washing drapes between guests?
Oh wait, there is more. For those of us with patios and porches: Using a multi-surface cleaner, wipe
down hard surfaces, including Patio walls, Window screens, Doors, Window sills, and yes, even the ceiling.
The guidelines seem to be a mishmash from a variety of sources. Many of the steps come from the CDC providing recommendations on the cleaning and disinfection of households "where persons under investigation (PUI) or those with confirmed COVID-19 reside or may be in self- isolation. It is aimed at limiting the survival of the virus in the environments." I am not sure how any host can comply with those stringent cleaning steps without raising the Airbnb cleaning fee to an outrageous amount.
I have always gotten high marks for cleanliness. I clean every surface as a matter of regular cleaning, and now spray or wipe bleach or alcohol on high touch surfaces. I have stopped instant booking so I have better control, and have added more prep time and advanced notice. Having said all that, I agree with other hosts that Airbnb is making it almost impossible to continue. They are giving us no help/money relief and yet continue to demand more. They pretend to "reward" those who say they are complying, however it feels more like threats. It is tiring, and soon may not be worth it.
Dear Airbnb, if you are monitoring this string - please stop the madness and give us something real that we can use!

To comply with the terms of my tourist licence, I have to be certified by the local authority which dictates the cleaning regimes and the down time between bookings. Clearly Airbnb is shut up in a little room somewhere and thinks that it knows better than the authorities by introducing its own rules!
