'Recommended rates' on the calendar are way way off the mark, not helpful. Over many years in Morocco and now in Spain, they are no guidance at all, I generally get at least double suggested rates. If I let at the rates suggested I would get wall to wall bookings but would literally be paying people to stay in my accommodation after changeover costs, electricity , water etc! The only things they are sometimes helpful for are price variations relating to local holidays. However a more accurate system would be really helpful and save me time trawling around checking other local rates ( I realise that it is not just room numbers but location and comfort factors too) : if I can work out an average, airbnb could too and make me grateful for their help!
@Clarissa7 I think it is good that you have highlighted this again. I really worry that some new hosts might be taken in by the sheer stupidity of the rates recommended by Airbnb.
It is a real shame that they are not more sensible as it is a clever piece of programming totally misused.
@Clarissa7 Airbnb's suggested pricing is designed for only one thing-to make listings as cheap as possible so guests clamor to book and the company rakes in service fees.
They couldn't care less if you end up making $5 profit/night.
No hosts aside from unsuspecting new hosts pay any attention to the price tips. They are only worth looking at for a laugh or if you're in the mood to be insulted.
