Hello! I have a question about how you hosts rate the cleaning of a guest. If a guest does not clean at all after themselves, even though it is clearly stated in the advertisement that the cottage must be left in the same condition it was in on arrival, all cleaning is on the guest. How do you put the stars on the cleaning then? 1 star or more? Regards Mattias

@Mattias29  Hello, if you have a handbook/house manual you can add all the things guests need to do before leaving. You can also remind them during the check in process of what is expected of them. I usually leave them a nice review if they have at least made some effort in putting the dishes in the dishwasher 😀

Happy hosting 😊

Hi @Eleni219!

We have a check list of what guests should do. Then we clean the whole space anyway. I always give clear reviews and always give feedback on what was not good, so that they  know.

It's an interesting question and I notice that it differs depending on where in the world you are. Here in Sweden, there are usually no problems. Then it is always a question of whether the guests' ability is to interpret the ad.

The reason for my question was that we had a guest where it was not vacuumed, even though it was clearly in the checklist, not cleaned of the toilet, there were traces of feces on the toilet ring, it was also clearly in the checklist, they didnt do anything.

I'm glad that there were some who gave me serious answers, sad that there were some unserious answers, but that says more about those people.

Have a nice day 🌞

@Mattias29   We are pretty much the same as @Lenore22  with our requirements which is basically for the guest to return things to their original location, and leave the property as they found it.  Our Housekeeper is there to clean, not tidy up and we see little point in asking guests to vacuum etc when she is going to do it anyway.  There are cleaning materials etc available for our guests to use for cleaning up those inevitable accidents which need dealing with promptly.  Occasionally a guest will forget to take the rubbish out upon departure and our Housekeeper will sometimes complain that the fireplace is left full of ash, but that is understandable as coals can retain heat for a long time and I would rather they were left.  I don’t ‘knock’ guests down on stars for cleanliness  for small issues as often they are in a rush to pack up and leave on time.  If you add children into the mix it can become a logistical nightmare.  However, major issues such as heavily urine soaked sheets left on the bed (when there is a washing machine available) will absolutely incur my ‘wrath’…  I was particularly upset on that occasion because the guest was actually a ‘Superhost’ herself.

@Kate867 we also think alike. I have high demands, the guests accept it when they book. They get an accommodation that is incredibly clean, and it is appreciated.
