Hello,
I have just relocated to a new city and have booked an Airbnb for 7 weeks while I await my friend who will arrive in 7 weeks time (and then we will share an apartment).
However, after some preliminary discussions with the apartment landlord today, there is a possibility that the apartment landlord wants to offer us an earlier date to start, say in week 5/6 of the Airbnb stay as the landlord doesn't want her apartment to be vacant for too long.
Hence would like to know:
1) Let's say I would need to start renting the apartment in week 5, and also assuming that the Airbnb host allows, how much refund am I getting? I have paid 4.5k MYR upfront and will pay the remaining 3k MYR in mid Dec (total cost of 6.8k in booking and 700 service charge).
2) How late can I afford to wait to cancel so that I don't risk not getting a refund (though I will notify him on these circumstances on my first day of stay)
In a short summary, once your stay has started you must give 30 days paid notice to exit a booking that is over 28 days long.
If, for example, you have access to your new place by the end of week 5, you should give notice before the end of week 1. Refunds are generally pro-rata but this is specific to your booking.
It would be also be fair and proper to let your host know of your intentions if you are needlessly blocking calendar dates and preventing other bookings.
Long term
This policy applies to all stays of 28 days or longer and overrides the standard cancellation policy for those stays.
In other words, if you already checked in and you cancel today (November 26.), you will not be refunded for the nights already spent and for the next 30 nights (until December 26) so you can stay in your Airbnb apartment and check out at Dec 26
