Rental cancelled

We have had a house reserved and paid for for 4 months    5days before arrival host sent me a note saying they sold the home and new owners won’t host us     No mention about returning our money or the bond this puts us in   Is there any recourse?

@Peter3153 The host needs to cancel and then Airbnb will refund you. Sorry this happened to you. Completely unacceptable host behavior, to leave guests hanging like that.

@Peter3153 call Airbnb at 415-800-5959 and ask them to review your messages with the host and give you a penalty-free cancellation and an additional compensatory credit to book another place. You might also try shaming them on facebook and twitter.

This amounts to fraud on the part of the host. 

You are entitled to a full refund and should have received it as soon as the host executed a sales contract, if not before.

@Peter3153   Many states have rental laws that require advance notice to transient tenants.  In my state (NC) under the Vacation Rental Act, selling owners are required to honor existing contracts for sixty days post sale, and the buyer must also honor contracts that are disclosed to them or each must compensate the displaced tenants.  I would find out what the rules are for the state where the rental property is and then educate the owner if he is obliged to offer either accommodation or return of all funds.
