Return of deposit

I am new to this and just received my first booking which unfortunately has to be cancelled. They paid a deposit through Air B & B but this has not been paid to me. Should it be? If so does it take a few days?

How do I find out how much deposit was paid?

Debbie

Why are you having to cancel the booking @Debbie992 ?

if you cancel as a host you receive penalties for doing so including a fine and having the dates blocked .

if you cancel the guest will get a full refund from Airbnb.  @Debbie992

The guest had to cancel because they booked the wrong dates so are now looking for their deposit back

@Debbie992  If the guest completed the cancelation process, the terms of your cancelation policy have already been applied. The confirmation screen notifies them how much of their payment will be refunded. There is no "deposit" charged - only the room rate and fees. You don't have to do anything here, because you're not directly handling the money. If the guests are confused, it's probably better to advise them to contact Airbnb customer support rather than add to the confusion.

The remaining payout that you're due will be transferred to your account after the originally scheduled check-in date.

@Debbie992   What a lovely cottage you have!  I can see that you have used the platform as a guest a couple of times but you are new as a host.  You are prepared to allow strangers into your home for a minimum of a week without sufficient understanding of how this platform works, as reflected by your question and listing description.  I hope you take advantage of the articles posted for host education, look at similar listings in your area, and continue to use this forum.  Learn the policies and procedures of the platform.  Don't assume guests are like you.  The public can have very different ideas of how to treat a person's home when unsupervised. Do not use Instant Booking option until you are more experienced at vetting guests appropriate for your listing.  If you are able to, meet the guest at check in.  If you cannot meet guests or have a local contact to meet guests, have appropriate cameras to see guests coming and going.  Augment your rules to protect against unregistered guests and potential large parties.  Good luck and welcome!

@Debbie992 I don't see any listing on your profile so I am not sure what the hosts are talking about with respect to your listing. One thing I will say though is don't become paranoid that everything will go wrong. Yes there are bad guests but they are thankfully few and far between. Oh and they seem to be particularly bad in certain countries and not so much in others.
