Thank you letters to previous hosts good and bad idea

Okay I just got an email from Airbnb to send hosts I have previously stayed with a very nice thank you note. I LOVE that idea until I got to the part where I should or could have the option to send them money.

I would love to send a “Thank you” “Hang in there” note to my previous hosts but what if I don’t include money does that make me seem cheap or ungrateful?

Being a “Super host” I assume this will also be sent to my previous guests.

Now I am horrified that Airbnb would ask for money on my behalf wrapped in a thank you note….

This was a great hospitality idea that included very strange and bad manners.

I would appreciate others thoughts.

@Meegan-and-BoB0,

Many hosts, including myself, have opted out of receiving any monetary thank-yous, because we think it's cheesy.

@Meegan-and-BoB0  Yes, the whole thing is cringeworthy, including, IMO, the urging to send a card. Of course you don't look cheap or ungrateful for not sending money- you already paid for your stay- most hosts who weighed in on this here on the forum were repulsed by the idea that Airbnb would send a begging bowl on our behalf. And, like you, the majority of hosts worldwide were probably totally unaware of this initiative and would have opted out if they knew their past guests were being solicited for donations without their permission.

But, as Debra states, you can opt out of the contributions. As I recall, you go to your "payments and payouts" section under your account, and then you'll see "Contributions" on the header.
