*Je suis européenne.*
I am bereft 😞
Since our general election in December, I've been avoiding all news like the plague – just couldn't bear it. Prior to that, I had almost managed to convince myself that our country would not leave the European Union.
Today I was searching for information on the corona virus, got taken to a government web-page, and there it was, the simple statement: “The UK has left the EU.” So, yeah, I have to accept it.
I'm hoping that someone could give me a little morale boost and tell me one good thing that can come out of this... I mean for our country as a whole, not just for certain individuals. [Also, I mean something specific, not just vague, meaningless slogans like “taking back control.” ← Bleurgh.]
Perhaps someone could tell me when we'll be eligible to re-join?!
*I am European.*
PS Dear Mods, I realise this is a divisive topic – do feel free to delete, if necessary – I just needed to say something.
PPS Not that this is my main concern, but are any UK hosts noticing a drop in bookings from European countries? Me, I feel so gratified when people from eg Spain, Germany, France etc still book with us 🙂 and would feel incredibly sad if they didn't come to the UK because they didn't feel welcome 😞
Do any UK hosts feel the need to reassure people from all over the world that they are still welcome?! And, if so, how do we do it? (Or, am I over-reacting?)
Hello @Patricia55
Just because the UK has left the EU doesn’t mean you are no longer a European. Two different things.
Some hosts mention in their profile and in images that they are welcoming of all guests whoever they are. You could look at something similar?
I am not sure why @Helen427 has gone off topic and made this into a rant about her beliefs around Covid. FYI Helen our government along with yours and many others have of course looked at the economic impact of Covid. Fortunately we don’t live in countries like the US or Brazil where they are prepared to put human lives at risk for the ‘sake’ of their economies resulting in the highest levels of Covid related deaths in the world.
@Helen3New Zealand didn't include Economic loses in it's Pandemic Plan, in fact our Officials didn't even have a current plan.
New Zealand is now $603 billion dollars in debt, around $120,000 per person and increasing daily with more and more people losing their jobs.
It's concerning those on well paying Public Services salaries haven't done the basics.
I'm also well aware of the fact there's considerable turmoil in the UK with Brexit & yes the timing of it does in fact coincide with Covid.
Suggest you brush up on World history & conflicts that have gone on before & power & control tactics some very sick people in positions of power play.
Guests from the UK are always welcome on the mainland, Brexit or not. So i guess the opposite also remains the same. Brexit does not remove the landscape, the culture, the people, the traditions.
We recently opened the direct Highspeed railway connection Amsterdam - Londen (by Eurostar). And the ferry from NL to Newcastle upon Tyne does not suddenly stop.
Do you think it's a little coincidental the timelines of this novel Coronavirus and Brexit ?
Frankly the whole situation we find ourselves across the world & under the Dictatorship of Directors of Health who haven't bothered to include the wider Economic impacts on our lives is appalling.
Did your politicians also have an Open Letter written to them along the lines of , "Politicians must listen to Scientists"?
Have you noticed all the information provided to us abt Covid is to " Follow the Science"?
Have you also noticed there's another push for a "Single currency, Universal benefit etc?"
It's the same agenda as what's gone on in years gone by.
I'd love to know who the legal advisors are for WHO, UN, World Bank , do you?
There's a long tale that exists pushed by Scientists...
@Helen427 Could you please refrain from using almost every thread you post on as a soapbox for your COVID rants? It's really disrespectful to the OP who is talking about something completely different.
Please refrain from trolling and misleading other users who use this forum about me.
Your remarks are inflammatory & defamatory.
My first reply is addressed to @Patricia55 not you.
