when an accommodation is booked and is known to be non-refundable ,
are hosts requested for some "indulgence" when covid is the cause?
I was in hospital, from a side effect from covid: emboli
I cancelled 4d prior the date.
I informed owner asap.
I asked him to postpone or refund at least half. No answer.
Strictly seen, it is his right. Although , during pandemic, we are prone to instant diseases .
Loosing more than 800eur hurts anyone I guess.
Can nothing be done?
Sorry to hear that you have to stay in hospital, @Alberto1448 .
Yet this case should be covered by your travel insurance, not by your host.
@Alberto1448 The risk of booking the cheaper non-refundable option is clear. I am afraid travel insurance is the only answer in this case.
@Alberto1448 Anyone who books a place during a pandemic, knowing the risks involved, should not expect 'indulgence' on the part of the host if the guest booked a place with a non-refundable policy.
I know it hurts to lose the money, but if guests want to be able to cancel on short notice with a refund they should look for places with flexible cancellation policies.
If the host refunded you, then it would be the host who lost the money instead of you, as it's unlikely they would get another booking for those dates, which your reservation blocked, on such short notice.
