security deposits and other fees

Does Airbnb charge guests a security deposit up front if we have it on our fees? Or are we responsible for sending a request to the guest in advance? I've been unclear as to how this works.

Airbnb claims to collect a security deposit,  but doesn't  actually do so.  Don't count on collecting it.  There are lots of threads on this site.

@Debbie1009   I don't think any of the OTAs collect a security deposit.  AirBnB certainly doesn't.  If you want to actually collect a refundable deposit, you can do it through the Resolution Center.  Be sure that you have actually received the deposit (money is in your bank) before you refund it, and only refund through the platform.
