Broken door lock mechanism

My neighbours observed a guest putting excessive force on my front door handle and lock in attempting to open the door the wrong way. The force has broken the internal mechanism which costs £120 . Can I charge the guest.

Yes, you can charge the guest, but will not be easy to produce evidence....

You might try asking the guest to voluntarily pay half the cost of repair.

If they are honest they might agree to that but I’m afraid that many people will either invent an excuse or just deny that it happened.

It shouldn’t be easy to break a lock without using some kind of tool. If someone can break it with their bare hands it’s not much of a lock.
