Cancellation fee
Good afternoon, I commenced hosting late last year and have had excellent reviews along with achieving super host. I had accepted a booking on 21/3/22 for a booking in early August for 2 nights. However a lot has changed for me in the last 8 days with my wife diagnosed with a terminal metastatic cancer which has changed our focus, as you could imagine. I contacted the guest directly and outlined the circumstances which was accepted, subsequently cancelling the booking, although I have honoured the current bookings through to the end of April. I received a $50 cancellation fee and attempted to find if there was anyway this could be considered exceptional circumstances without success. I emailed the feedback centre but have had no reply. I have read the cancellation policy for Covid 19 which does not appear to cover off on my situation. Does anyone have advice on where to go to in this situation?
regards
Scott

@Scott1578 Very sorry to hear of your wife’s illness!
The Covid policy wouldn’t apply here. Read instead,
https://www.airbnb.ca/help/article/1320/extenuating-circumstances-policy
under which unexpected disease or illness is excluded, unfortunately. I doubt you will find success with CS and pleading your case, but you can try! Best of luck.
