Covid compensation

Foolishly I followed airbnbs advice and made my cancellation policy flexible, now they refude to compensate me for following their advice. I have also been a superhost for years but have recieved no email even though it is my primary source of income.

Thanks guys x

@Gary50  No one has received any emails re the Superhost grant. Everyone is waiting.

If you have a flexible, moderate cancellation policy (as I have), you are ineligible for compensation. It stinks!!  I hope you are ok otherwise.

@Marilyn30  Some hosts here have reported getting 25% back on cancelled reservations done under a moderate cancellation policy.

Thanks for your response. Weird though! I think they’re just hopelessly screwed up!! They told me No...

@Sarah977

Truth arises more readily from error, than from confusion 😏

Moderate policy bookings that have been cancelled fewer than 5 days from check-in dates are (technically) eligible. However, Airbnb was telling guests that they had to cancel at least 7 days before arrival date to qualify for COVID refunds, so the numbers of cancellations within the week of arrival are miniscule.

@Susan17  Except that post by Ann said they got paid 25% for a reservation that was cancelled on something like March 20 with a check-in date of April 5. Error and confusion indeed.

I had 2 reservations cancel in Florida due to Covid. No money from AirBNB as promised. Can’t call can’t email.

Did u try 1-888-326-5853. Thst number worked for me. They said “No money for hosts with flex/moderate cancellation”. They sent my “case” to resolution who said the same. Its messed up!!!

I changed to flexible, too. I’m screwed, as well. Nothing as a superhost, either. I’m so scared to open again. I have no idea how to stay safe...

Yeah.   I think you would be safe if you block 3-4 days between guests and don’t go into the room for three days, after they leave. I don’t think virus can live on surfaces that long. I’m not too excited about hosting either. It’s creepy...

I called and found out, as some others have said, that I am ineligible for any compensation for Covid-related cancellations because I have a moderate, flexible cancellation policy. I’ve been a super host for about 5 years. So, as I see it, their talk about caring about hosts was just talk - Grandstanding. It’s really annoying. The whole partner thing is such baloney.

We have lost almost 70% of our income due to the bushfires in December/January and now COVID19. We still haven’t heard received an invitation for the grant scheme. If things don’t improve, we will be forced to dump AirBnB for full time rentals. It’s pretty disappointing considering AirBnB makes almost 20% off our rental properties.

My understanding is that there are two possible sources of “grant money.” The smaller one - a percentage of what you lost and the larger “hardship” grant. The smaller one (which won’t be given to hosts with a moderate cancellation policy) will be given automatically (no application). The larger one - I think you have to apply. Good luck! You deserve a break, right...

@Marilyn30  Where did you get this understanding? The larger fund isn't a "grant"- it is a reimbursement of 25% of what a host would have received if their cancellation policy had been upheld. The "grant" for some Superhosts can't be applied for- there is some form a host needs to fill out, but they will only be sent the form if Airbnb decides they are eligible.

Thank you for the helpful information posted here. I have been a super host for three years and have been keeping in contact with my guests who have mostly cancelled or if further ahead are waiting to see what the UK govt announces. I have tried to create buffer days between bookings to allow for cleaning and preparing under these circumstances . I too thought I would get a little compensation but I have always had a moderate policy - now I realise why I haven’t heard anything ! This should have been made absolutely transparent in the COVID 19 updates - I don’t think it was ???
