Covid compensation

I live in the UK - lucky me!

So we are under Boris's  go nowhere - and sit it out plan with no real

end in site after most of 2020 doing the same.  Has anyone received any compensation for the losses throughout this period?  I heard there were some offered to Superhosts last year but I was never contacted...  Stay safe everyone or you may end up like little ol' Britain 😞

Hi @Lisa5861

Greetings from Cumbria!

When Covid first hit Airbnb gave a clever online talk/press release to say hosts would be compensated 25%. Sounded good, but the small print revealed it was actually 25% of our cancellation policy, so ONLY hosts with a 'strict' policy got anything - 25% of 50% = 12.5%! Hosts with moderate policies therefore only got 25%   of what their payout would have been only when a cancellation was made with less than 5 days to go before check in.

Re the 'superhost relief fund' it was another publicity stunt. A few host were selected to receive, most were not. There were umpteen posts here in the CC about it at the time, then a final one from the moderators drawing a line once payouts were finished. Try the search feature up top....

I see you haven't hosted since Feb 2020.... I guess that's on you, not our government, nor Airbnb! - I host a private room, and have 54 reviews since we were allowed to host again in July 2020. Minus November when Airbnb blocked the calendars, like they did  from late March - 3 July. Obviously we WERE allowed to host tourists last summer, and I have been hosting doctors & nurses ever since! And men who keep local infrastructure going; engineer types.  I get guests from Airbnb and SpareRoom.

So I feel for you that you weren't lucky enough to be one of the random chosen few for the SH relief fund, but puzzled as to why you haven't hosted again since 4 July... Private rooms are popular for workers, who can't afford a 'whole place', nor a hotel....

@Lisa5861

Hi Lisa.  I received a couple of very tiny amounts during the pandemic. Yes, it's true that it was 25% of the cancellation charge and not 25% of the full accommodation charge.

Have you applied for local government funding available for hosts paying business rates @Lisa5861 ?

If you have a strict cancellation policy you should have received compensation last year under their policy. If you met the criteria and weren't compensated did you chase it up with Airbnb at the time?
