Both the renter and the host are Canadian. On the last transaction they refused to payout because suddenly they want us to give them a US tax number. The property is in Mexico and we don't have a US tax number??? On the last request the payout should be $3100. After they took all the taxes and charges I would get $1300.00. That is ridiculous.
There is nobody to talk to. I talked to three people including a supervisor who said the tax department would reach out to me. Well guess what. I get an email that says that they only way to respond is not through phone but by email. Then they send me a couple of links to see if "it helps". It doesn't because there is no information on Canadians having to pay US taxes. I respond but they don't answer.
Has anyone had any luck talking to anyone in the tax department. They don't answer my question and keeping sending me to links that don't answer the question?
Sorry to say I don't think Airbnb has a "Tax Department"; at least not one you can speak with as a Host. Was there a specific question you had that we might be able to help with?
Well I am Canadian. I am trying to find out about taxes. They suddenly started to take US taxes off of my bookings. I told them I am Canadian and they have all the verified ID. Then they wanted me to fill out a 1099 which is an American tax form. I am not American.
Also how do I get a copy of the Mexican taxes that were paid. Do they have a year end document that shows what was paid in taxes?
Not familiar with how income taxes work for a Canadian Citizen with a property in Mexico?
Here is what I found on taxes for Mexico:
