I’ve learned that the most valuable thing a host can offer isn’t the room—it’s the feeling of being sincerely welcomed. A beautiful place is important, but guests remember the human connection long after they’ve forgotten the thread count of the sheets.
Hello @Alpha39, What a beautiful reflection you've shared with the community. Thank you so much for taking the time to post it.
Is there a particular guest you remember with deep appreciation? Do you feel you've grown or improved as a host thanks to feedback from your guests?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 😊
Thank you so much, @Paula , for your kind words. 😊
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to welcome many wonderful guests, and honestly, it’s difficult to choose just one. Each person leaves a small memory behind.
What I’ve learned is that people rarely expect perfection—they appreciate sincerity, kindness, and knowing that someone genuinely cares about their stay. Sometimes a simple conversation in the garden, a smile at check-in, or taking a little extra time to help creates a stronger memory than any luxury amenity.
My guests have taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of listening. I believe every stay is also an opportunity for me to become a better host and, in many ways, a better person.
Thank you again for encouraging this conversation.
Absolutely true @Alpha39 . Guests may forget the details of the room, but they remember how they were treated. A warm welcome and genuine care can make a simple stay feel special.
Thank you, Carter. That’s exactly how I see hosting. I always try to welcome my guests as I would welcome friends into my home. A comfortable room matters, but feeling respected, listened to, and genuinely cared for is what people carry with them when they leave. 😊
Exactly @Alpha39! I try to make our spaces feel like my best friend is coming to visit— what would I do to make her feel special? It is all about making your guest feel seen & valued!
Thank you, @Elise43. I really appreciate your words. I have a lot to learn, and I find your approach very inspiring. Welcoming guests with the same care we would offer to someone we truly value is a beautiful philosophy. I’ll certainly carry that thought with me as I continue growing as a host. 😊
I have to express this somewhere on this platform. My family and I were evacuated from our home due to the wildfires in and around Spokane. Our home was in the middle of the Old Trails Fire and the Autumn Lane fire. We had only an hour to evacuate as the fires moved so quickly, having to leave so much behind. We were displaced for over a week, not knowing if and what we would be returing to. While we were evacuated, most of the local accommodations were full and while we found a place to stay for a short time, it was not a long term option. Because of this, we reached out to Anchor Hospitality Co. via the AirBnb listing. They were so incredibly compassionate, sensitive and kind. They went out of their way to help us navigate securing the booking, offering resources and keeping in constant communication with me while I was also trying to navigate so many other fire evacuation details. Even going so far as to ask what my 13 yr old daugher's favorite treat was so that it would be at the home for when we arrived (along with any other neccessities we may need)! This brought my daughter and I to tears after such a stressful and exhausting time. The Host was amazing and while our evacuation lifted and we did not have to actually reserve the booking, the Host spent a good 2 days keeping in constant communication with us as we worked through our insurance company's approval of the emergency housing. Due to not having to make the booking, we are not able to write a review of the host or booking (unless some one can tell me another way to do that), but I want to do everyting I can to publically make it known that Anchor Hospitality Co is the absolute best Host on the AirBnB platform. I am sure there are other wonderful hosts out there who would do the same, but my experience with Anchor Hospitality Co is what I can speak to. If anyone knows of a way for me to commend this Host, please do let me know. They were amazing and I am familiar enough with the area to also know that their place is in a beautiful and inviting area. I know this is a long post, but I want to express my gratitude to them! They are truly caring and wonderful Hosts! Please let me know if there are other ways I can more publically show my appreciation (I will of course being sending all my friends and family to them). I am also reposting this from a conversation I started because this experience really did show the human connection!
