Hi everyone ๐
It got me thinking that not every host is just around the corner from their listing.
Some of you might only be a few minutes away, while others could be managing your accommodation from a completely different town, city, or even country.
How far away do you live from your listing, and roughly how long would it take you to get there?
Whether it's a quick five-minute drive or a flight across the world, it'd be really interesting to see just how spread out our community is.
Looking forward to hearing your answers! ๐
Buongiorno @Rebecca ,
I live in Bergamo, and my home in Venice is about 250 km away; it takes about 2ยฝ hours by car. Even so, when I don't have guests, I always enjoy going there on the weekends.
Andrea
Buongiorno, @Andrea6232 ๐
A 2ยฝ-hour drive isn't too bad, especially if it means you get to spend weekends in Venice when your listing is free. ๐ Is it a beautiful route to drive too?
I've never asked, but did you originally live in Venice and buy the home, or did you purchase the property especially?
Ciao @Rebecca
over the years, Iโve been to Venice countless times; itโs a city that has always fascinated me, and both my wife and I have fallen in love with it.
Iโve always wanted to have a home in Venice, and weโve managed to make that dream come true ๐
@Andrea6232 I love Venice too, it belongs to one of my favorite cities! More in the winter time, when it's less crowded.
Once we stayed in an Airbnb in a resident neighbourhood - however we had kind of bad feelings there, to take away housing. How is the situation where your listing is?
Buongiorno @Till-and-Jutta0 !
My home is in the Cannaregio district, a very quiet area with lots of residents, far from the tourist crowds.
But I have to say that Veniceโif you step away from the busiest areas, like St. Markโs Square and the Rialtoโis a very livable city.
Iโm trying to convince my wife to move to Venice when we retire ๐
Good question! We are home share hosts, so we are right there! We consider it important for the comfort, safety and security of our guests out here in the wilderness! ๐
Thanks for sharing, @Kitty-and-Creek0 ๐
I bet your surroundings are a big part of what makes staying with you so special.
We touched on it before, but do you think hosting in the wilderness attracts a different type of guest?
In my block of three houses, two houses offer accommodation to guests.
I live in the third house myself. So, besides being their host, I am also their neighbor.
Thanks so much for sharing, @Emiel1 ๐
That sounds like a really lovely setup. You're close enough to help if guests need anything, while still having your own space. ๐
Has living next door ever led to any memorable moments with your guests?
Hi Rebecca,
I am a home share host so live in the same house, as well as accommodation I offer a garden spa, I feel really good about being close to hand to help with the operating of the spa and daily cleaning. There is also an outside bar for my guests to use. Sun loungers, outdoor shower, Hot tub , dry sauna and lovely garden.
Mostly during the day my guests are out and about in Whitstable , sampling the local seafood and enjoying the beach. I really like to hear how their day went , what they bought, and how many Oysters they ate!

I really love how relaxing your space sounds for your guests to unwind after a day exploring Whitstable. (Whitstable is a beautiful place - it reminds me a lot of Aldeburgh)
I love that you enjoy hearing about their day too. Have any local recommendations come from your guests that you've ended up trying yourself?
As we share our home, we live IN the listing.
Thanks for sharing, @Till-and-Jutta0 ๐
That couldn't be much closer! ๐ Do you enjoy hosting in your own home?
We definitely enjoy it! However it's important to close the calendar from time to time, to prevent host fatigue (as Brian has called it once).
