Setting the Security Deposit
Hi,
I am a host from Malaysia.
Does anyone know why Airbnb has set the security deposit to USD equivalent?
I mean, the rest of our transactions are done in our local currency. USD100 is equivalent to MYR419 (today's rate), which is simply too expensive for our guests.
Views?
Thanks

There is no "security deposit" collected by Airbnb. In any currency. It is an illusion.
However, It is possible to collect your own, in your own currency. Simply request money through the resolution center. Be sure that the guest has agreed to it before proceeding.

Thanks. That is one way to do it. But even the guest agreed to it upfront, they might still refuse to pay. That is the risk. I have seen so many posts from Hosts on this

@Sariyah0 If the guest refuses to pay then you cancel them. If they are refusing to pay in contravention of your rules then Airbnb should allow a penalty free cancellation. @Elaine701 seems to gets agreement from the guest before accepting their booking.

Yes, their upfront agreement is key here. Will try this method. Thanks again
