@Sandra7767 It is great that you are continuing to update the products that you share with your Guests in your Airbnb.
I’ve been waiting four years now for Airbnb’s Green Sustainability Badge to be introduced. I’ve posted here before about Airbnb announcing this badge, but I still can’t understand their logic in promoting it in listings when it hasn’t actually been rolled out. For the past four years we’ve had the Sustainable Festival, and I’ve shared how I promote sustainability through my listing. I’ve written another piece on this, which I believe will be published tomorrow, 15th September.
Hi @Sandra7767 and @Laurelle3 👋,
I love that you’re both putting a lot of effort into sustainability. Sandra, those new changes at your place sound so practicable and achievable for most hosts. Do guests notice the difference with the biodegradable products and new plumbing? Do you share any info with them around this?
And Laurelle, I understand and have shared your feedback with Airbnb again. Do either of you find that guests ask about your green features, or do most just go with the flow?
Our guests are always interested when I mention the Compost bin that is sitting on the kitchen bench, and I explain I have a worm farm. Questions are often asked what food they can put in it. Sometimes the children take an interest and want to see what it is. So, we have a show and tell education session.
Children today are encouraged to take an interest in sustainability at school or in the home. When a family stay, we let the children pick some beans, tomatoes or spinach if we have excess in the garden.
I truly believe children are our future in helping to preserve the land, especially since history shows that in the past, some decisions weren’t always made with care for the environment.
I have added a photo of the compost bin on the kitchen bench.
Oh I LOVE the worm farm @Laurelle3! I have always wanted one. Do you have it in your garden or in the house? I've seen a few different options 😍
I agree with you that the children are the future and it's wonderful that so many are already aware of the impact on the planet. My eldest is a wonderful environmentalist in the making. 🌍
@Rebecca the worm farm is kept outside we have 2 now. A elderly neighbour gave us her old one and this is now in use too.
I think I'll have to get one! We can't have a compost bin, so this might be a better solution. I have heard as well that the liquid that comes out of it is a fantastic plant food.
How does it fair with the change of seasons? Do you need to protect during heat waves etc?
@Rebecca the worm farm is kept in the shade. At the moment it is excess rain, and it runs down the sides of the trays and find small gaps. I am having to empty the juice out daily. As I write this, I think I will have to put a cover on it.
Eeep, are you coming into spring time down under? We're headed to autumn here, so the nights are getting a bit darker, and there is definitely a chill in the air!
I'm definitely going to look into a worm farm for our garden - thanks for the tips! @Laurelle3
