Why do we say days when it's nights?

In the hotel industry guests stay for 1 night or two nights or however many nights they want to sleep at a location.

If you count the "days" its more than the nights... reservations should be by the nights..  example... I check in July 1 and check out on the 4th... thats 4 "days"  they only sleep over 3 nights. Its inaccurate to say the guest is staying three days if they are in the room in the day of the first and dont leave till the day of the 4th...  the guest is staying for 3 NIGHTS.  Why we dont use industry standards and accurately state what the guest is doing? .. Checking in on the 1st and staying for three NIGHTS.

It's mostly correct (for example the actual reservation shows "x nights"), but in some of the newer places that recent updates have added on, it incorretly uses the word "days".

"Y stays 3 more days", for example, which always confuses me too - how was that calculated? 😃

The correct industry term is "nights" and we have always used it. Anything else is confusing! It is about "heads in beds" which is nights.

@Kham-And-Deejay0 who is saying days? Whoever they are needs to stop as its nights that count and, when blocking time for maintenance/private bookings you need to block NIGHTS not days.

I did think everyone knew this but perhaps not.....

Surprisingly "they", who don't seem to know accommodation well, are parts of Airbnb's app @Mike-And-Jane0 😆

The place I can think of right away (there may be more), is on the Today page. For an ongoing booking it'll say: "Mike stays 4 more days". When you count, the "days" are actually the remaining nights on the booking.
