2024 1099-K FORM WRONG, AIRBNB DOING NOTHING TO FIX IT

Once again, for the second year in a row, Airbnb has issued me a 1099K form that is completely incorrect.

They are currently "working on it" but last year they never solved the issue so I don't have much hope.

Let's all keep track here in the hopes Airbnb starts taking us seriously. This is completely unprofessional and ridiculous.

@Jenna447 what is wrong with t?

The dollar amounts reported as income by Airbnb to the IRS are wrong.  It's likely too high.  Ours was wrong too, but the discrepancy was small.

Any taxpayer who doesn't report rental income that matches or exceeds the amounts on the 1099 will receive a notice from the IRS.

Our unit made less than 5k and it all went to my co-host. His 1099-K form is correct.

My 1099-K form, however, has me listed as receiving almost 11k from Airbnb.

Update: 10 days later, no response from Airbnb. I have called and emailed. They said they would call me - they still haven't. I submitted a complaint through Better Business Bureau, and Airbnb has communicated through BBB that a specialist will reach out and I should work with the specialist to resolve the issue. That was on Tuesday, Feb 11 and I have still heard nothing. I am assuming I will have to report Airbnb to the IRS once March hits.

We are having a similar issue and getting zero help from Airbnb. I host units for a company my dad co-owns and have been for several years and in 2023 I added a totally separate unit in a house my sister owns. They have issued 1099s with all the income under the company my dad works for, despite it being paid out correctly. We didn’t notice in 2023 because it was under the reporting threshold, but for 2024 it was $27,000 and not only is that a problem for the taxes but also makes it look like my dad was committing fraud. Everything is correct in the system, both taxpayers registered separately with 1099s in place before any income was paid out, payout methods correct and was paid out correctly. I have been trying to speak to someone for two weeks and AirBNB keeps saying that their specialized team is working on it and will contact me but refuses to give any contact information for anyone on that team and the issue keeps being closed. I didn’t realize how many people they’ve been doing this to until researching today. It’s unbelievable that they’ve apparently been doing this for years. Refusing to correct a 1099 is tax fraud and illegal. We’re working on what our next steps will be, but it sounds like a lot of people have had the same problem and no luck fixing it. Have they actually fixed this for anyone? I’m beginning to think this specialized team doesn’t exist.

I haven't heard of them correcting anyone's 1099k form. Last year I had this issue with them but on a much smaller scale than this year, and it took about a month of me hounding them before I finally got an official answer of "We know it's wrong but legally we don't have to fix it, it's up to you to figure it out on your taxes."

The worst part is that I know exactly what went wrong on my 1099k form and exactly what they need to do to fix it (they tacked 6k worth of 2023 bookings onto my 2024 transactions history!!!) but they won't put me in touch with anyone who will listen.

I will definitely not be using Airbnb in the future as a hosting platform, and once I use up the last of my Superhost credits, I won't be booking through them anymore either. I don't trust them with my data or information.

I have complained to the BBB about them, which is essentially useless but made me feel slightly better.

I'm having the same issue - $4000 over what I earned.  I will look to see if they put 2023 $ onto Jan 2024.  I will complain as well.  Might as well add my voice to the fray!

@Robin977 I will be contacting the American Arbitration Assocation about my issue as it appears to be the only way to get Airbnb to take anything seriously.

My host and I have been working with AirBnB for 2+ Weeks to resolve the issue. I received a 1099-K that represented the income from all the rentals my host manages, rather than just my property. We both have open cases, since he didn't receive a 1099-K at all. The responses he gets are primarily links to AI instructions that don't work, and AirBnB hasn't reached out to him since Friday.  I get responses from a person named Britney based in Dublin who keeps saying only my host can resolve. It is an endless death spiral of ineffectiveness at this point. We, too, will be reporting AirBnB to the IRS on March 1.

BTW, the amount they got wrong is over $50K
