How many of you still use regular keys to allow people in your abnb
I only use regular keys, for both exterior and interior doors.
.For me no need to change it.
Thank you thats what another man told me he did but I was worried they would walk off with the keys
We use a digital door lock keyed to the last 4 digits of the guests phobe number. However, we have a regulsr key in a lockbox in case there is a problem with the digital. Covered both ways.
Can you tell me what lock you are using. There are so many out there
Me. It might vary where depending on where you are located, but the locksmith told me that digital locks and key safes/lockboxes are highly likely to invalidate your home insurance here in the UK. Apparently, most of them have a strict criteria for which locks you use.
Oh ok Thank you
I don't know if it's the case for all insurers or just some, but that's what the locksmith told me when I asked about installing a digital lock. He said that I needed a British Standard Lock.
I just did a quick search online and the info I found was that MOST insurers here require either a five lever mortice deadlock or a key operated multi-point locking system and would prefer it if you also have a night latch. Elsewhere I read a smart lock is apparently okay IF it is used in conjunction with a mortice deadlock.
So, it is a bit confusing and I guess it's best to just double check with your insurer. They usually have this kind of stuff in the fine print.
We do not have anything like that in Canada, if Insurance Companies go that way, my husband is a licensed locksmith.😊
Thanks for enlightening us all.
