Excessive garbage left behind

Does anyone charge a guest if they leave extra garbage after their stay? My guest was there for 4 days/3 nights (1 was actually just a half day and 1 they were gone for 10 hrs) and they left 5 bags of garbage, due an unsanctioned "family reunion" that they hosted.

DO NOT TAKE AIR GUESTS EVER. THEY DO NOT HAVE A SECURITY DEPSOIT SET UP. VRBO DOES AT LEAST YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK THROUGH THEM IF NEED BE.  I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A VRBO GUEST THIS PAST WEEK. I AM GOING FOR 3 GRAND IN DAMAGE. I BETTER GET IT!  GARBAGE WAS ONE OF THE ISSUES. OTHER WAS THEY VERY WELL COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN MY MILLION DOLLAR HOME!  CAREFUL WHO YOU RENT TO DO A BACGROUND CHECK FIRST ON ANY ONE YOU SUSPECT NOT TO BE STAND UP.   I GOT LAZY AND PAID THE PRICE LAST WEEK,

Thank you @Julie203 . Luckily, there was no real damage... just 6 bags of garbage generated for 3 nights. And they weren't event there for 1.5 day. I am sorry to hear you have to deal with that. I actually had another bad experience and had to have the guest removed. I am trying my best to do my due diligence on people before they rent, but this one seemed legit. They just lied to me about having a few family members over on Sunday afternoon and ended up with 24 people at my property. I had to block the driveway so they would not park any more cars, because there was no more room. They would have been parking in the grass and it is a swampy mess. UGH! Why can't people just be honest and respectful?!?!

Hi @Heather2160

In situations like this—especially when there's an unsanctioned event or excessive mess—it's reasonable to charge an extra cleaning fee or claim through Airbnb’s Resolution Center.

Five bags of garbage from a short stay does seem excessive and goes beyond normal use.

If your house rules prohibit events or gatherings, you can use that to support your claim. Just make sure to document everything with photos and submit it as soon as possible.

@Nandini11 Thank you. I agree, that it is a lot of garbage.

They had asked if they could have a few family members over, 5 - 7, and I did agree. However they ended up having 18 additional family members over, which is what resulted in the excessive garbage.

I do have a rule about events and gatherings, however I was trying to accommodating by letting them have 5 - 7 people over and that backfired on me.

I haven't submitted claim before. How do I associate a cost for having to dispose of the extra garbage? I typically just put the garbage from this rental in with mine, however there is now too much for me to put at the curb this week. My garbage company won't charge me extra, they will just leave the extra that does not fit in the can at the curb. Thanks for your help.
