Excessive surtax applied with surgical precision on the little guys

I was wondering if something is being done to help the little guy?

in California and probably in many other places too. The hotel industry is pushing for a death sentence surtax applied with surgical precision to kill our business under the guise of reducing long term rental price
arguments against it:

1) the rents tenants are paying will not go down. STR is a tiny fraction of the pool of places to stay.
2) Huge corporations don’t like healthy competition and want to keep gauging

3) huge hotel corporations don’t spend the money they make where the hotels are located but rather take the profits in other states and countries, little guys like us are local and spend every dollar locally stimulating small businesses around.
4) SB 584 is designed to crush the small guys who are just trying to make it in areas so expensive that only the super rich can afford.
5) Capitalism works only when everyone has a fair chance to make it, not when the government puts its thumb on the balance to squat the little guys and protect the big corporations and billionaires who lobby them
6) I rented a hotel room last year and: there was a loud music coming from their bar/restaurant. Even watching TV was stressful.
7) when we woke up and checked out or tried to check out, the lobby was occupied by the police. There had been a murder in that hotel that night.
😎what the hotel industry is doing is against capitalism, it is fascism and bullying.

I don’t think you’ll find any disagreement on this forum. Hosts and guests would both like to keep their accommodations taxes reasonable. In many places, the taxes have become unreasonable.

Airbnb, VRBO, Booking, etc. need to form a strong lobby, at least in the US, to be on equal footing with the hotels for pushing through legislation. I would gladly pay dues to this lobby.
