I have found the laws passed for Cape Coral and Fort Myers Beach, but nothing for Fort Myers city limits where I live.

I have read several articles and they are short on details.
It is not clear who it applies to or what is affected.

There is not a lot of information out there right now and time will tell if this ever becomes a thing. I understand that as long as you are following regulations for your area, you have nothing to worry about. This is meant for those not following regulations and is meant to punish them by not allowing them to write of things to their place under the "rental income" category of their taxes. This is a good quote which explains it well.
"The tax changes will take effect in 2024 and only apply to operators that are not abiding by provincial and municipal rules governing short-term rentals."
I actually think this is a great thing however I am skeptical about how they are going to police this.
Other than that, we know very little and the media is just repeating the limited information that was shared.

My Payout of over 4,000$ (host in Ontario) June-July 2024 has been PAUSED, and they keep asking for TAX information. I'm not making 30, 000$ per year so don't need HST. Every time I talk to someone at Airbnb, they pass me on to an expert in this field.
5 experts later, and I'm still waiting for my Payout.
Does anyone know if EVERY STR must get an HST number, no matter how much they make?

Hi @Sue2128, Yes.
Only after threatening to cancel all future bookings, they sent me a USA Tax Form for non residents.
I guess the issue was that I have a USA phone number (can call Canada, US and Mexico without long distance charges) and so IRS assumed I was a US resident.
I'm not sure if Canadian tax laws are changing in 2025 in regards to short term rentals, so I have to research that.
