How does AirBnB insurance work if I don't own the house?
Hi - I currently rent a house and would like to AirBnB it while I am away. The owner has given me permission, so that is not an issue. But we both want to understand how the insurance works. If something happens to the house and it is damaged (for example, trashed by a party), will the insurance cover the damage even though I am not the owner of the house? Do I need to provide proof of ownership or just that I have permission from the owner? What happens if the whole house burns down? We just want to make sure are covered for any of these types of situations. THanks for any advice!
@Heidi744 Airbnb do NOT offer insurance. Aircover for damage is not insurance and will not cover the situation where the house burns down between guests or even with guests if it is an electrical fault (ie the cause of most fires). You will need proper insurance from a company that allows short term rentals - It is expensive but critical to have this.
@Mike-And-Jane0 are correct. I would suspect that both you and the owner will both need commercial business insurance for full coverage, not Airbnb. Sounds like an insurance logistical nightmare to me. But I've only dealt with a vacant shared waterfront lot.
