Invoice request for AirCover

I had a guest stay who spilled tobacco and food all over my floor, they also stained one of my sheets with blood. The entire carpet was damp and smelled of urine. As usual, the guest ignored the request for an extra cleaning fee.

When I submitted the claim to Airbnb, I supplied pictures and information. However, they required me to submit an invoice/estimate for the cleaning that is by a professional cleaning service. However, I do all my own cleaning and own a carpet cleaner and stain remover.

They didn't accept the quote given to me by someone from Angi.com written in an email.

How can I submit an invoice when I personally did the cleaning? A professional cleaning service would have required almost double the amount I requested.

If you wanted to be reimbursed through Air Cover for additional cleaning expenses you would have needed to get third party cleaners in and provide a receipt .

if Airbnb allowed you to claim for your own time hosts would be able to submit a claim without any proof so the system would be open to abuse.

its worth looking through the terms of Air Cover to understand what is and isn't covered @Joshua1161

The problem is you are asking to be reimbursed the cost estimated by a cleaning company but you do the service.  Costs are different for self or an independent business.

Doesn't mean your free labor does mean just less expensive.

Submit a reasonable estimate of your charges for your additional expenses.

It's unlikely by that "Aircover" would "cover" this. It's not an insurance or guarantee, and is solely at the discretion of Airbnb.

This kind of thing happens in this business. It will happen again, depend on it. Is it right? No, but it still happens.

So, raise your prices to cover these occasional issues with irresponsible guests. Surprisingly,  it seems that guests who are willing to pay more tend to be more responsible, and these things tend to become less frequent. The only requirement is that you deliver a quality product for that extra.

I learned long ago not to bother with "Aircover". It's hardly worth the frustration.
